I hate my car....
It's engine that is. 2006 Taurus with the old fashion 3.0 liter over head valve. The car itself is fine, everything you could expect from a modern American sedan, but it's engine feels like it has over 150,000 miles on it when it only has 35,000. It's lethargic, not responsive, and only puts out 150 max horsepower. Why the hell did Ford put this dinosaur of an engine in a new car? This engine was modern in the mid 80's. 20 years later, it's ancient seeing as it wasn't a great engine when it was new. No wonder why Ford is failing, putting out sub-par vehicles.

No one makes anything for the 2005-2006 Taurus with the 3.0L OHV Vulcan engine. Now if I was smart, I would've found an '04 or earlier with the 3.0L DOHC Duratec. That engine has a full 200 horse and a solid aftermarket following (performance chips and even Roots style blowers). Ford stopped putting the Duratec in the Taurus when they brought out the Fusion. 0 -

I owe too much on this one. If I trade it in, I'll have to carry over around $5000 onto the "new" vehicle's purchase price. I've only had this car 6 months, that's bad being sick of a new car after that short of a time. I prefer driving my almost 15 year old F-150 over my two year old Taurus. 0 -

My mom drove a Taurus for a long time. Hers had the SHO 5.0L motor and it had more power than that car could ever use!
I have never been too impressed with most any V-6 from any of the manufacturers!
But normally it is the problem of putting to small of a motor in too big of a car!
There are very few body styles that are truely of the size to call for a V-6. You either have the compacts that are fine with a four banger or move up to a car with a V-8. A Taurus is definatly too big for a V-6!0 -
The Duratec cars are decent but they weren't made after '04. Lincoln got it right with the last gen Connies, those cars had the 4.6 V-8 and they were based off of the Taurus platform. The only Taurus with a decent engine were the Gen 3 SHOs with the Yamaha 3.4L V-8. 0 -

I already have it's more versatile stable mate: the F-150. My truck only has the 300 I-6, but it is four wheel drive and has a manual tranny. Not quite the power level of your Bronco, but last winter I did haul a '99 Chevy 1500 on an 18 foot car trailer from Minneapolis, MN to Rice Lake, WI with no problems except reduced steering effectivity. 0 -

Yea but my Bronco is like new! And the 2 year old crate motor only has 24000 miles on it, so it will still last for many many years to come. I service it regularly (usually at 2500 mile intervals as I don't drive much and I normally hit 2500 miles at about 3 1/2 months so I go ahead and service it before I get the full miles on each service.
It has the full K&N intake, full Flowmaster exaust, and complete Mallory high output ignition. If you step on the gas it will pull you back into the seat pretty darn good! I have never tried to do a burn out (although I have broke traction off road a couple times) but I'm sure it would do it even with the 31" tires on it.
It also does pretty good on gas at about 16 to 18 MPG.0 -
Mine's 15 years old with almost 150K and that wonderful Wisconsin winter body, it doesn't matter what I drive the truck through. I don't believe that a truck should look pretty. Trucks are tools meant to be worked. If through the course of that work the body gets a little messed up, who cares. Mechanical reliability has always been primary, body secondary at best (usually third behind the radio and speakers). My '93 is a proven cross country performer. Last winter it was driven from WI to ND and back and in the beginning of October this year it was driven back out here. Nary a problem. 0 -

IMO the problem is likely: A. That w/the fuel crunch and Libs crying over fuel emmissions etc, you got a car w/an engine that was DESIGNED for economy over performance.
And B. That you made a poor choice. Did they not tell you it only had 150 horsepower? If you wanted performance, you should've known you wouldn't get there.0 -
I got it to replace my Explorer. The replacement of that vehicle had nothing to do with the roll-overs, but had a lot to do with general design and engineering flaws in the drive train (no way to over-ride the auto 4wd). The Taurus was the only Ford in my price range that I half way liked and had the size I prefer in my vehicles. I'd love to get a 'Stang GT but apparently I have a family somewhere so I decided a 4 door was the right vehicle. Now that I realize this family of mine (read "my wife") decided she doesn't really want anything to do with me, I suddenly I don't want this car anymore.
BTW, I don't really care about gas millage. My truck gets 15mpg on the highway at best.0 -
