The elk hunt is one of my biggest dreams, maybe one day? But it sure is expensive for someone like me who isnt familiar with hunting them. I would need a very patient guide. Enjoy!

Eric, are you in a tree stand or ground hunting?

If your on the ground don't be afriad to move in on them, if they are inside of 50 yards then you need to press a full frontal attack. If they are not going to move to were you are then move to were they are. Just be ready to shoot very quickly.

I'm ground hunting...you almost have too in this country. I'll keep that in mind in the future.[8D]

Either sex for a couple weeks (Archery only) and I'm hunting for meat. I'll take a big cow if the oportunity presents itself.[^]

Sounds like a good day in the woods[:)]
If the weather is anything like over here in Washington the best time to drop one is in the evening. We are hitting 80 degrees over here the last few days and the Elk meat would spoil real fast in that weather it it was shot in the morning.

Well...we got into them this morning. I had a bull bugle back at me and we moved in on him and then I started using a cow call. I had a whole bunch of cows returning my call, but I could not get anything to come in. They were as close as maybe 30 yards at times but the forrest is so thick and steep in some places that you cannot see 10 yards. We saw several moose and a huge black bear with her cub...I'd bet she was at least 500 lbs. I got back in around 2:30pm and I'm not going back out tonight...got a killer head ache right now. It'll be Saturday morning before I can get back out there. Thanks for the well wishes![:)]

That ain't how it looks on them TV shows. What'd y'all do wrong?

Sounds like you had fun. I never could get into "sliver slinging", but glad you enjoy it.

...just heard them...we had quite a few cows moving around and talking back to us...just too thick to see them. I never heard from the bull again after switching over to the cow call.
