    How do I know this?

Armed Forces day is on my birthday this year! May 19th which is the third saturday in May not the 3rd sunday![;)]

Just thought I would point out your mistake![:D]

    http://www.holidayinsights.com/other/afd.htm

    Armed Forces Day
When : Third Saturday in May

This is simply a day to salute sharply to all of the men and women in all branches of the service who protect our country and you. They can be called upon at a moment's notice to perform a risky and perilous mission for freedom and country. They train diligently both physically and mentally so they will be prepared to prevail in any mission they face.

Just how did it all begin? Well, each branch of the military had their own day of celebration. But, on August 31, 1949 then Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of Armed Forces Day. President Harry Truman also announced the holiday in a presidential proclamation on February 20, 1950. All branches of the military were asked to celebrate on this day and they complied on the first Armed Forces Day which was held the following year on May 20, 1950.

If you do not mind me asking when were you in Rocky Mount NC. I grew up about 30 minuets from there. That is the biggest town around and the only one that had a pizza place, skating rink, mall, and theater.

So every weekend we headed there to hang out and chase girls we have not seen before. Then during the week we go back to our girls. LOL.

From the powdered peanut butter thread, I saw that you spent some time in Antarctica.

That had to be quite an adventure. Do you mind sharing some of your experiences?

Did you want one of the heavy leather belts I was talking about in the CCW thread?

I can snap a pic of mine if your interested.

Like I said, I think they are 30 dollars for the belt with a buckle.

    James,
Your wise, and entertaining posts, your ever changing sig line, and of course, your respect for H&R firearms, is always a bright spot in my day.
    Keep up the good work!

I'm surprised. I do believe that Columbus has never officially recognized the Federal government, nor it's ability to revise history. And likely, Columbus was not considering the possibility of three day weekends at the time he landed. As such Columbus Day should still be October 12; which this year is the second Friday of October.

Jim, I posted the Adak vid giving credit but I couldn't remember your rating but I used EMCS. It's got 15 likes so far and it's brought back some memories to some.
Thanks again for sharing the history. This may be a closed group, I forget, but here's the link.

As such, I would like to suggest to the mods/admin that he be given a forum of his own on here, bearing his user name, where he may post a collection of his colloquialisms and other sage advice for all members to read and enjoy.

    Hi James!

I was browsing some auctions this AM, and I came across an H&R revolver that looks to be a bit unusual, but I don't know much about them at all. Anyway, I thought you might want to have a look see at it, so I have included the auction link below. Also, the fellow notes that he will be selling more H&R's in the future, so that might interest you as well.

Happy Navy Birthday to you, James.

Really appreciate the links you include in your signature line and the way you keep them topical.

Question for you: Any ships upon which you served still in USN service?

All that I served upon have been scrapped with the exception of a few weeks spent on a brand new Carl Vinson during refresher training 35+ years ago.

I understand why they are all gone, but miss the look of the Cruisers and Destroyers that were built in the 1960s. They looked like fighting ships, and I just don't see that look in the Arleigh Burke class (for example) though I know they are a much more effective platform than the older ones.
