Remington Shot Shells at Dicks
Just got the new Dick's sale flyer in Sunday's newspaper. They have a bunch of different Remington boxes on sale, and it's confusing. I've looked at all of these before on the shelf, and there seems to be little difference between the lower-priced ones in terms of load weight, velocity, etc. Remington's web site doesn't even show all of these varieties.
Game Loads $3.98 per box of 25 (case price); $0.16 per round
Gun Club $4.28 per box of 25 (case price); $0.17 per round
AA or STS $5.78 per box of 25 (case price); $0.23 per round
All-Purpose $2.98 per box of 20; $0.15 per round
Target Loads $17.98 per box of 100; $0.18 per round
For sporting clays, is there any reason to not choose the all-purpose shells, since they are the cheapest? Or is there some advantage to the Gun Club or Target Loads, costing 2 or 3 cents more per shot? What about the "game loads"?
ps. They also have Winchester and Remington high-brass shells on sale for $9.98 per box, which seems like a pretty good deal right now, given price increases over the past year or so. 2 3/4", 3" and 3 1/2" steel shot shells are also on sale for good prices.

Cheap shotgun shells are inconsistant in thier velocity. I reload because I have gotten acustomed to the speed of my reloads.
I notice that I score about 10% better shooting AAs or reloads than with the cheapies.
That said, if I am going dove hunting and gonna shoot 300 times a day, I'll buy cheapies.0 -
Most sporting clays are faster than the all-purpose shells. In sporting clays the birds tend to get out there so you need the extra velocity to catch them.
I take it that these are 12ga shell prices???
I have all but given up on the reloading for the 12ga, at those prices listed i'm not saving any money if i have to buy shot ($40 for 25lb = 450 7/8oz reloads is .09 cents just for the shot) right now i have some reclaimed shot that i have picked up so i can save the shot cost, it will run out way before they ever lower the price of lead.
I mainly reload for the 28 ga now those shells are 1-2 dollars more per box.0 -

Remington Nitros 12 gauge sporting clays, 1350 FPS are 5.46 per box, and AA's target loads and handicap loads are 5.46, Can get game load federals in a 4 pack for 15.67 and the winchester cheap superspeeds for 14.25 for a 4 pack..Of course there is the 7 percent tax on that, which ya have to pay whether at wall mart or Dicks..
Only expensive shotshell here are the .410 and .28 gauge. 8-9-10 bucks a box depending on where ya go.
I too reload all my own, but with the price of lead (unless I can get lead for free) doesnt save ya much.. We even make our own shot. So a box costs us just primers and powder and wads..0 -

I have bought my production shells at WalMart but mainly because we don't have a legitimate gun store here in town.
How many of us "know someone" who went and researched a product at a small store (be it a gun, or anything) and garnered advice from a knowledgable salesman. THEN went to a discount location and bought said product from there?
In the building materials industry I have people all the time call and ask me for advice and/or information, get my prices and expertise, then go to Home Depot and buy the product....It really irritates me.0 -
At our local Walmart, here in Florida,, Sometimes we even get them at a better price if they are having a close out before ordering a new shipment.. 0
