It's in the middle of the night and you hear breaking glass and hushed voices. For some reason you know it's not any of your loved ones.

What gun do you grab and why?

Personally, I have a Remington 860 for that sort of situation. Hope it never comes up, but nothing says you mean business like the sound of a shotgun racking.

NOTE: Meant "870" - my lousy typing skills strike again!!!![:D]

A metal grill over the lower windows is a better way to go, in my opinion. Any plastic material can be defeated easily with the right tools. Lowes only carries 1/8" plastic material, not thick enough to prevent a home invasion.

A good alarm system is a good thing to have on the whole house, installed with a perimiter system so you can set it while in the house at night.

    Backup with a big dog!![:0]

Why live behind bar's in your own home. Just get a fence and gate around your property and put up security lights at all corners of your home. Put an alarm in the house. And keep a dog outside. That way your perimeter is covered. Then have a cell phone and gun close by, real close. If they want to get in they will. You could always build a castle. [:D]

I prefer the James Bond alarm system. It was highlighted in For Your Eyes Only.

Bad guy breaks window. Car explodes in his face.

You could rig something similar in your house.

I have bug spray and hair spray. I have bleach and vinegar. I have a tool chest with implements that would hurt if wielded toward anyone.

    Dawgs inside and outside.

Floods outside and lights inside that go on when you switch the floods on from your bedroom.

Outside light around here make your house a target, if on all night.

My basement windows are at ground level. I covered them from the inside with 3/4" plywood secured with #12 3-1/2" screws. It's still possible to break in, but it wouldn't be worth the trouble. You would need a chain saw or a pretty good ax. I figure if I'm home I'd hear the saw or the banging. If I'm not at home, I'd be glad to get rid of most of that junk in the basement anyway.

Spend the money on the alarm system and get all the bells and whistles. The peace of mind is great plus it'll knock your home owners down for burglary and fire. I also have low wattage floods under the eves of my house and a golden retriever that sounds fierce for such a wimp. Now I can hook up the camper and go anywhere and all my crap is okey-dokey from the bad guys who look for an easy target. Mike
