Computer Help Please
I got this laptop fixed and now half of my capital letters don't work as well as the question mark. What the hell is wrong[?] Don't yell if I don't use capital letters. It's not me, it's the damn computer

actually it is 32bit vs 64 bit os, unless you have xp64 or vista 64bit, windows will only recognize around 3.25 gigs max of ram, because 32 bit os only has

each byte of ram takes up 8 bits, not including what other hardware is using including video {on board or not}, 32 bit just doesn't allow enough addresses for the ram to write too
the problem i have putting 4 gig of physical ram in and not reading but 3.25 gigs, is how it reads it, and i cannot find the answer, let me see if i can explain that correctly, dual channel ram reads like a person that can read two books at the same time, {one with each eye}, otherwise even if you have 2 or more slots it read like a normal person down one side then back to the top, and down the next, but i want to know if the 3.25 gigs set in dual channel reads both at the same time only seeing around 75% of each, or does it read 100% of the first chip{s}, and only 50% of the second channel, no one appears to be able to answer that question
as far as cbxjeffs problem it does not mean 100% it is a virus/mallware/addware or norton, many programs added such as office/excell/etc. will run at start up, even games and video software will be running, and not be identified in system resources0 -

This is a handy utility to use in addition to the previously mentioned Ad Aware, and SpyBot, which I have also used for years.
Like others have said, Norton is a resource hog for sure.
First thing I do when I get a new computer, is remove anything Norton related, if it came with a trial version.
The one linked also checks your registry, and lists your start up items that load automatically upon boot up.
Best part is it's free!

Backup all the stuff you care about, and format your drive then reinstall windows. You'll be amazed at the speed difference between your current setup and a fresh install on the same hardware. Windows just gets crufty... 0 -
i swear sometimes bill gates himself could come on this board with a full schematic and a detailed description on how something he invented works and explain the years of R&D, and someone will disagree, and offer alternative solution they read about on a blog or overheard in a bar 0 -

That should say go to start/run and type in msconfig.exe.
Then go to the startup tab.
That is one place where stuff starts up, the others are services and there are 2 places in the registry HKEYS.
Current user and Local machine then in each its;
software/microsoft/windows/current version/run0 -
run winmsd on the start line - it gives a lot of good info as well. 0 -

reg hkeys ,i would not advise to even attempt to mess around in there unless you are a very advanced user0 -
go to start menu type msconfig and remove all the crap that starts up with windoze xp, you can also use hijackthis to remove crap at startup.
Norton is a joke, I would uninstall it and forget it. All you need is adaware and avg0 -
Nah, if Bill were posting I'd tell him his business morals create an extremely localized vacuum and that I prefer to use Linux for everything...
