Who here has ever..............
Who here has ever shot in a CMP match?
I am considering trying one this sunday in the Vintage Rifle Class.
I would be shooting my M-44 Mosin Nagant. I would not expect to do very well my first time out, but I think it might be fun to try.
Any help you might beable to give me would be great.

Are they pretty fun? And if my kids are there will they have fun watching?0 -
I also shot several CMP matches back in the early 90's. I started with a SKS, I didn't finish first but I also wasn't last. I enjoyed it so much that I bought a M1A national match and started shooting High Power as cross training to my Small Bore career. Target shooting is not the most exciting spectator sport but your kids like to be around shooting so they will love it. 0 -
You are going to get a serious sore shoulder and dinged in the nose a few times. At some matches score is not really counted, just shooting 50 rounds down range qualifies you to purchase a Garand from CMP. I do the worst on the 200 yd prone part, old body just doesn't work right. Here at the club I belong to many of the shooters just keep comeing back time after time just for the fun of it. Course of fire,
15 shots-offhand 100 yds
15 shots-sitting or kneeling 100 yds
10 shots prone 100 yds
10 shots prone 200 yds
Really jusy a good day out at the range.0 -
I have shot them.
I highly encourage anyone interested in shooting to shoot the matches and they are a lot of fun.
The kids might get bored after awhile.0 -
I'm going to see if I can make it this weekend to give it a try.
If for no other reason to see how I will do against those guys who shoot these things all the time, and to just do some shooting.0 -
git r done,
Sorry I didn't reply sooner. Did you get to the range? If so how did it work for you?
I wouldn't have taken my kids out to the range I shot at. They were all too young back then, they would have only gotten bord, and I couldn't have kept my eye on them.
The range I went too had a camp ground near by. The wife & kids, and a friends family all stayed there while we shot at the match. I recall it was a hot day, and the range was like shoting in basic training. Hot and under the sun! The camp ground had a nice swimming hole, and plenty of berry bushes to keep the kids busy.
