Fair Tax Anyone
well i thought I'd get yalls opinion on here since were so opinionated here anyway. i have been reading up on this a little bit, but only b/c i have been listening to Neal Boortz, but i really can't see anything wrong with this. We'll get a check every month (not sure how this will work or how much), no taxes taken out of my check, and everyone pays not just one class of people.

Need more info....,like a link, website something, so that we can read for ourselves then we will open fire. 0 -
I agree with the fair tax so long as they don't go overboard with the tax percentage on purchases. This is the ONLY way to make EVERYONE pay taxes. Illegals, rich, poor, and average people would have to pay the same tax for the same item. Of course the rich will end up paying more simply because the items they purchase cost so much more than an item a poor person would buy. But really, who cares if rich people have to pay more, they MAKE more. You could manage how much tax you have to pay by what you buy. The tax would be a certain percentage of the total cost. If you bought a car for $10,000.00 with a tax % of 10 then you would pay $1,000.00. If you bought one for $100,000.00 w/the same tax % you would pay $10,000.00. If you make more you spend more you pay more taxes. can it get any more "Fair"?
Just my thoughts

thanks, i have heard of it before, I think it was Gov. Ventura(sp?) that i heard mention it once in an interview on leno. some time ago never thought much more about it since i will read and get back0 -
Yes please [:)] 0 -
i'm thinking of getting Neal Boortz book off of Amazon for like 10$ if that. seems i would support this. 0 -
Actually I'd rather see a consumption tax than an income tax. Let me earn what I can earn. Put a flat, federal sales tax (not like a VAT) on everything. If I buy a $2,000,000 home, I pay a sales tax on it. If I buy a $70,000 home, I pay the same percentage of sales tax on it.
In this manner, there are no loopholes, there are no playing games, everyone pays their "fair" share of taxes.
BTW, the Treasury would come out ahead on this system. So will the American people.0 -
In theory, it sounds good. However, I have a few problems with claims it makes.
1. 23% inclusive tax. I'll try to explain clearly. If you buy something, 23 percent of what you are paying is tax. You don't see it though. It's on the shelf for 100 dollars, and you pay 100 bucks. 23 dollars of that goes to the government. The way we would calculate that right now is this: the item costs 77 dollars, plus 23 dollars tax. That rounds up to a thirty percent tax, which sounds much worse than 23%. They made up a new term to make it sound better.
2. the Pre-bate. They send you at the beginning of each month what they calculate you will be taxed on essentials (food and clothing) and mail it to you in the form of a check. Why not just not add in the tax on groceries and maybe clothing articles under 50 bucks or so? My guess is to keep us relying on the gov't for that monthly check. Grocery cash registers can differentiate between taxed and non-taxed items now (check your receipt from meijer or walmart that you bought food and non-food) but they'll forget how to do that when the fair tax is enacted? I don't think so.
3. hidden taxes. right now, we pay taxes on top of taxes. to buy a loaf of bread we pay the energy bill of the grocery store, with tax on it, the tax on the fuel of the truck that brought it to the store, the payroll taxes, etc. Fair tax claims to get rid of that. It doesn't. We'll just be paying everyone else's sales tax.
Do I think the fair tax is better than what we have now? Definitely. Do they need to be more honest about their claims? Yes.
Others' input? agree/disagree?0 -
Nothing is perfect, but to me it sure beats the heck out of what we have now!
Also,.......everybody gets to pay something, unlike the system we currently employ, where many get all of their tax refunded, plus some more of everyone elses in the form of the "earned income" welfare payment.
Plus it should make the "poor" happy,.......the "rich" still get soaked, and no more "write-offs".
Doubt it will ever pass though. The Gov would be giving up too much of their control, and what about all those poor IRS employees?[:(]0 -
it looks good on paper.
I agree it sounds better than what we have now.
the IRS people are skill and educated people they will find a job or they will get to see how the poooor really live.0 -

Being an OryGunian, I do not support any type of sales tax.
Actually, I don't support any tax.
Am I an Anarchist, then ??

I agree 100%. That way even the underground economy pays.
Problem is it would not allow the liberals to control the money and divert funds from one sector to another and that's why they will never allow it to happen.
It would also disclose how much tax we really pay because there is so my income tax, sales tax, add on tax, tax on tax, etc. now that it would all have to be scrapped and a new correct rate fully disclosed. If we ever found out what we really pay in taxes we as citizens would revolt! Government will never allow that little fact to come to the surface.
There are fed, state, and local fees built into everything we do. Even our phones are taxed, its endless. Add them all up and come up with either a set flat tax rate or a consumption or add on tax and the rate would be so high that we would be pulling off another Boston Tea Party!!
Never, never will happen or even come up for Congressional discussion.[:0][:0] Just my humble opinion.0 -
I think New Zealand has a tax system similar to this, has worked there for a long time. 0 -

the fair tax is a horrible idea. We dont need a replacement for the income tax. We need to GET RID OF the income tax.
And in order to do that, we need to cut spending. Any new taxes are just going to encourage even more spending. We are nearly $9 trillion in debt. The budget ceiling will be hit on Oct 1, and of course the president will ask congress to raise the ceiling. (Problem solved, right? hahaha )
Our federal spending is 3x what it was in 2000. The personal income tax accounts for 1/3 of federal income. All we have to do is curb spending to 2000 levels, and we can get rid of the income tax.
Its not hard to do. So many wasteful government programs, DHS especially. And the Fed sure as hell isnt helping matters any.0 -
That BS again?
I hear that there is a secret highway in Texas that no one on earth knows about yet either.
Hey did you hear, JFK is dead!

Get rich and pay some tax lawyers to find some way around pay all you owe. If needed pay many lawyers to lobby for new holes that would be even more benefitical to you.0 -

Being a Warshentonian, I support Oregone having an income tax (as long as I don't have to pay it) and having no sales tax.
That way, I can drive across the border and purchase all my big-ticket items tax free from Oregone businesses.
Everybody wins!
Oregone businesses flourish, I save 8.2% on my large purchases, and the state of Warshenton gets the gas tax on the fuel I use driving across the border.
Yes, even though gas is cheaper in Oregone, I feel obligated to pay my share of the 9 cent a gallon added gas tax that our legislature crammed down our throats after we voted down their 5 cent proposal.0 -

Not quite double. Yeah, the best thing would be just to get the gov't to stop spending so much. But that would mean we (in the national sense, not you and me) would have to give up our entitlements.0 -

And therein is the crux of the problem. It is always those "other guys" who are spending the public money in a wasteful fashion.
The things you and I want are valuable and needed.[:)]
It's quite obvious to me at least.
