The 8th of November, 1965 - 173rd Airborne
I'm not a veteran, never served, and so I feel it's inappropriate for me as a civilian to post this question over on the Viet Nam Forum.
I'm sure most of you have heard the song by Big & Rich "The 8th of November" about the heroes of the 173rd Airborne back on that day in 1965.
I respectfully ask if any of you - my fellow posters and Americans - were there, obviously having survived it, or know of someone who was and did or did not make it that day.
A very poignant and moving song that gets one thinking back some 40+ years.

I like country. I do not like Big&Rich. I like the song. It is a powerful song. It reminds the listener the respect the men and woman of the Armed Forces deserve. 0 -

Ditto. Those serving before and after me have had it worse than I did.0 -
Was not 173rd- have brothers that were. They were first major ground combat forces in Viet Nam. Operation Hump is the action in the song- ambush by more than 1,200 Viet Cong. Don't feel bashful about posting a question on the Viet Nam Vet forum- visitors generally welcome. 0
