    Columbus discovered the new world 515 years ago, so these freeloaders are going to take a day off.

    Meanwhile, most of the rest of the working world will be plugging away as normal.

    Our local school district has school today as the teachers voted to celebrate Columbus day this coming Friday and make it a three day weekend beginning on a Friday instead of ending on a Monday.

    Heh! As an agent of the United States Federal Government (a rural mail carrier for the USPS), I take issue with that statement. It reveals a colossal ignorance insofar as how long and hard we government employees must work.

    For instance, we get only 20 annual leave days a year, 13 paid sick days, and 10 paid holidays. Do your math and you'll see that equals only a paltry 8.6 five day weeks off per year. That's barely more than two months!

    Hmmmmm.....I take that "I take issue with that" back. Maybe I should be counting my blessings instead of my wishes.
