Next to Cool Hand Luke this is one of my favorite movies. I wathced it again last night with my daughter, and noticed something I had never paid attention to before.

What type of gun (rifle) did Atticus Finch (Gregory Peck) use to shoot the mad dog with?

    I live about 15 minutes form Monroeville. We go most years to see the play they put on in the courthouse. I have a cousin (much older than myself) that is friends with Harper Lee. He lives in New York most of the time and she visits every few years.

    Correct Hedog, It was Jean Louise Finch.

    Duval was Arthur (Boo) Radley.

    This novel was Ms. Lee's first and only novel she ever wrote.

    How many Academy awards did it (The movie) win?

    Wouldn't it be a gas if they remade the film based on modern tolerence themes.
    You might see a scene like this:
    Now Scout, those people who moved in across the street are Islamic Extremists. So don't be alarmed if one day you see them stoneing one of their women to death in the front yard. They have every right to their religious beliefs and customs just like everyone else.
    And see that house down there? Those people are Coprophillic's. And just because they are unrepentant dump truckers and we aren't doesn't mean we're better than them. They work hard like every other American to put food on their table. And then poop it out and have sex w/it. [:D]

    Nunn, not to disagree with you, but Moses Gunn was just getting started in 1965 and I don't believe he was in To kill a mockingbird. How did that happen, has to be an interesting story.

    Got Mr. Gunn mixed up with Brock Peters. Sorry. Both were seen a lot as bit players and character actors in movies and TV shows.

    Brock Peters played the falsely accused black man, Tom Robinson, and he and Gregory Peck did remain friends. I got the facts right but the name wrong. Oops.

    It won three Oscars, including Best Actor for Gregory Peck, Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Black-and-White, and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium for Horton Foote. It was nominated for five more Oscars that included Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Mary Badham, the actor who portrayed Scout, Best Cinematography, Black-and-White, Best Director, Best Music, Score - Substantially Original, and Best Picture.

    I'll say it.
    The book is better than the movie. It's a great book. Good movie, but doesn't have quite the power of the book.

    Good flick, great book. Go get a copy and read it. When in high school, our School Board banned the book. Best line in the movie belonged to Heck Tate, not Atticus. When Heck said "I may not be much, Mr. Finch, but I AM the sheriff of Maycomb County- and Bob Ewell FELL on his knife. Good night, sir." But for a better line yet (one that was not in the movie) get the book, and read the scene about the lynch mob at the jail. Please don't give it away to them that ain't read the book!
