I burned ALOT of wood this winter, I thought I had plenty, but the pile is starting to get real small. I think I can make it but its gonna be close. [:0] The oil tank has been empty since last spring, haha [:D][:D] not one drop of oil burned this year [:p][;)]

...Wood's all free, except for saw gas and oil. Oh, yea....the back surgery last summer wasn't free.
...The shed in the pic is 32' long. We've cut probably have again that amount since the pic was taken. Lots of that in the pic was popler and soft maple. We've been burning hedge (osage orange) for about a month. Man, that will give you one HOT bed of coals.0 -
popler???? Hell we throw that stuff away here!!! All hardwood here, Oak, Maple, beech, ash, cherry! 0 -
...pa, the popler was dead in my front yard. Kinda hard to toss it on the burn pile. It makes heat. (some) Hardwood is not very available for free around here in the flatlands. The hedge is a Godsend. 0 -
We live right in the middle of the Pa. hardwood forest, wood used to be reaadily available and cheap, now the damm particle board plants and paper mills take all the culls, so firewood is getting hard to get and much more expensive! Still much cheaper than other places.

I've gone thru two and a quater cords since November.I've got a large fire place insert, made out of heavy cast iron. It also has a blower.This will be the first time we burn three cords up, in one year.You sure did burn alot of wood.0 -
I believe a "rick", "rack", or "rank" is the same as a "face" cord, but that might not be correct in your area.
A true cord is four feet high, four feet deep, and eight feet long.
A "face" cord is supposed to be 2x4x8, but can be just the 4x8 "face" size, and then whatever length the wood was actually cut per stick for the depth.
A true cord goes for $80-$90 around here most of the time. It's usually seasoned hardwood of some type.[:)]0 -

Same here, but can get varying degrees of "dry". According
to tests ran by the ol "Mother Earth" mag. dry wood creates more
creosote than green, and personally can't tell much difference myself.
I think the key is to avoid smoldering fires...keep em hot.[:)][:)]0 -

Check with your local detention center, in my area inmates do storm clean up, and cut wood and sell it cheap no advertising first come first served. 0 -

All oaks here. Green or dry don't matter...we have a couple
annual flue fires, but so far, luckily, have always been home when
they catch.0 -
Mixed Maple/Oak/Ash, green, goes for $65 a cord around here. Face cords run about $45.
The wife had 10 Cord dropped in the yard Friday (for next winter).
So far this winter we've burned about 18 tons of Oak and Maple "trim" wood (trim is what they get when they re-saw rough cut down to size + boards that don't make grade.)0 -
Burned 2 cord (true cords) and 1.5 tons of PA coal. Haven't filled the oil tank in 2 years.
Glyn-where are you at that you're paying $280 a cord?0 -

various conifers...Tamarac, Red and White Fir, Cedar, etc.
We used to burn around 13 cords back east and that was hard wood...Locust and Oak.
I've been please with how well this stuff burns...I was worried about it when we first moved here.0 -

You want that wood cut and split?...I will do it willingly...I used to run the skidder, and also work on the landing (limbing and bucking up) in the bush....I miss it...
When we got it home (what didnt go to the mill) I actually enjoyed splitting it....good day's work out..0
