Plastic VS Lead
Interesting little ballistic test I just did, I took a 22lr cartridge, removed the bullet, loaded twice the powder in, and then placed a shaved down .12 gram plastic BB (air soft type) into the cartridge. I proceeded to shoot it at point blank at a 1/4" lead plate. made a sizable dent about 1/8" deep! Not very impressive you think... well, its plastic going at probably around 2000 fps. against solid lead! I thought it was interesting... dang I'm bored [:D]

I for one appreciate you tellling about your experiment. Now try putting three times the powder and see what happens. Please report back to us with picture, etc.

lol, there is very little compression behind the BB as it does not expand to fill the rifling. it doesn't even move the slide when fired. so done get all "THATS DANGEROUS" on me [:D] it only weighs .12 gram.
as far as putting three times in. i cant, it doesn't fit [:p]

Powder space is not a problem: Pull the bullet, chamber the primed case and powder, keeping the barrel pointed up; then pull the bullets from as many cartridges as you like and pour the powder down the barrel and into the chambered case. No problem as the powder will just fill in ahead of the case. When you have sufficient powder, insert bullet of choice into the barrel and ram down tight against the powder as if it were a muzzle loader. Then fire away, but don't come running to me after you blow your legs off! 0 -

Better yet, buy a bottle of Bullzeye and pack as much of it down the barrel as you can, then shove a bullet down it.
In reality there is no way all of that powder will burn before it leaves the barrel.0 -

There have been plastic bullets for long time now- including a 38 Special that looks like a hollow based wadcutter reversed. Intended to be a close range stopper that does not go thru your house. Also wax bullets for indoor target work. Cautionary note- you may wind up coating bore with melted plastic. Which COULD be a bore obstruction for a lead bullet at later date. Which WILL be an exciting event. 0
