My Neighbor is at death's door///. Update
My neighbor Frank is building a 3,700 square foot log house. He was up on the roof a couple weeks ago, putting on the ridge cap. He was trying to get on the last 3 foot section of ridge cap on the metal roof before the thunderstorm hit.
The thunderstorm hit, and Frank slid right down the roof, and fell 14 feet to the ground. He told me it was like a water slide.
Frank broke his left ankle and busted up some ligaments in the right knee. He is 48 years old, and 6 foot and 235 lbs. Lots of foot pounds hitting the dirt there.
Three days ago, he started having trouble breathing. He had developed blood clots in his legs, and they traveled to the lungs. This is known as a pulmonary embolus. They had him in ICU. The doctors caused him to go into a coma so they could try a technique to bust the blood clots. That technique failed. He is still in a coma.
He was just divorced two months ago. His ex wife told me last night that from what the doctors told him Frank will be dead in a couple of days.
He has a big construction loan on this house, must have spent $250,000 so far. It would take maybe $200,000 more to finish the house. His wife said she has been trying to get him to buy health insurance for a year, but he told her he didn't need it, so he has no health insurance.
Update: What do you know. My other neighbor called Frank at 3 pm today, he answered his cell phone! He came out of the coma and is doing ok. The docs have got the blood clots under control.

Good question. I went up to the house this morning, and saw the little 3 foot section of ridge cap, and the screws, setting inside the house.
I also saw that there was a lower section of the roof, about 400 square foot, that had not had the metal put on it yet. I thought that if Frank were incapacitated, or worse, I would have to get with his son and at least get that roof finished. Then the house could set for a quite a while with no damage from rain/snow. Now, it is not my problem.
See, I worked for Frank for six weeks this winter, and he was an unbelievably overbearing and critical boss, and I finally had it out with him, last February, we had a big argument, and I quit. Everything I did he criticized, and I am a damn good carpenter, a better one than Frank is, so I couldn't take too much of that kind of crap from him. So, I am not too eager to go up there and work for free, if I put that ridge cap on while he was in the hospital, he would, no doubt, call me up and criticize me for doing it wrong.0 -

good news on the update
i knew a guy who retired with 750,000 bucks plus his pension, and decided it was a good ideal to top a few of his trees, fell 25 feet, and became a quadriplegic0 -
Thanks for the update.
