Would this work

First you will have to buy property that has a small hill. Pour cement for the roof on the ground, dig under the cement then pour the floor as deep as needed. You would need pillars for support.
50% of the cost is labor but with this it would be cheaper.

    I don,t know if your talking about an underground dwelling or for storage but you would have water seepage.Even if you dug a drainage ditch around topside heavy rain would seep in, even with drain tile.You would have to have waterproof walls.Also if you needed a building inspector it would have to be to code.

    I don't think I would try that. Concrete would be heavy for a roof,then it always seems to crack.How many supports will you need to keep it up and level while trying to work under it?

    I've seen them make domes out of concrete by laying down a bladder. putting down re-bar and concrete, then blowing the bladder up until the concrete sets. then removing the bladder.

    I think you would have to dig out the hill and build your bldg. so that you could water proof it but you could build it out of concrete first and then cover it back up.

    +1 thats how its supposed to be done(or at least thats how it is done around here)

    I think you would have some MAJOR support issues doing it the way you descibed.

    There IS a construction technique similar to what you describe- called cover and cut. However, the earth on the sides will need to be supported as you dig, otherwise will tend to sag into the excavation- perhaps quite suddenly, with very bad results. Called sloughing.
