question on shipping a gun

i have a problem with a super redhawk i wrote to ruger and they want me to ship the gun to them ups my question is can they ship it back to me direct or will it have to go to a ffl holder? thanks in advance

  DIRECT TO THEM , FFL NOT REQUIRED, DON'T USE THE US POST OFFICE,
  
  USE ONE OF THE OTHER SERVICES, DHL, FED EX., UPS, ETC. INSURE IT AND DECLARE WHATS IN IT.
  
  IT WILL COME BACK TO YOU FROM RUGER.

  Smith and Wesson had me ship a revolver to them via FedEx. They shipped it directly back to me via UPS (no FFL needed because the ownership of the gun did not change).
  
  I assumed they had me ship to them via FedEx because UPS wouldn't take it from a private party, and that they returned it via UPS because it was cheaper. Maybe I'm mistaken about that. I was happy that it was a relatively painless process, and beyond that I don't really care why they did it how they did it.

  You may ship a handgun to a FFL holder for service/repair, and have it returned, using UPS or FedX. They both accept from a non-FFL, but must be from hub, not the local "UPS Store" kinda place. US Mail requires FFL to FFL. And yeah, the factory IS FFL holder. Will need to go second day air.
