Trolling motors
I have very little experience with trolling motors, but am thinking about getting a Minn Kota Endura. Those of you who have some experience with them, is there a real big differnce between say a 30 lbs. thrust and a 50 lbs. thrust motor? Basically would the price difference be worth the performance on my 13', 60 pound canoe?

I am just getting my fishing boat up and going again. I need to get a trolling motor for it. I have used a couple borrowed ones in the past but it has been a decade ago and dont remember what they were.
The boat is an old Livingston similar to, http://www.livingstonboats.com/boats_12.html but mine measures just over 12'.
This will be used in smallish lakes. I do have an outboard for getting around with.
How big of an electric motor do I need? I dont want to go to big, nor do I want to go too small. I was thinking 40#-50# thrust.0 -
I doubt you would notice much of a difference on just 60 lbs.
I wouldn't spend the extra money.0 -
I have a 10 speed 35# I usualy run it at 2 but more power is nice if you have a head wind.I would think a 30 would push a canoe at hull speed at 1/3 power 0 -
The difference between 30 lb thrust and 50 lb thrust is about 20 lb thrust.[:D][:D] 0 -

Big difference between 30 lbs to 50 lbs. How big of a boat will you be pushing with this motor, and will this motor be the only motor on your boat? 0 -
ENOUGH WITH THE TROLLS !!

I had an Endura 55# on my 14' V-bottom, moved it pretty well although I rarely used it.
A 50# motor on that little canoe would launch you pretty well compared to that 30#.
The 30# would still probably be your best choice.0 -
You could ski behind a 13ft canoe with a 50lb trolling motor. I've got a 14 jon boat with a 30lb thrust trolling motor and it does fine. 0 -
Difference? Almost twice the thrust. Almost half as much battery life. Bigger motor pull more current when running full power. I have a 35# on a 14 ft Jon Boat, and it will almost go up on plane. Canoe and 30# should be plenty unless you are planning to race. 0
