Our newest pet
I have been seing alot of these around lately. This one has been in the house for about a week now. He has been anywhere from the kitchen faucet to the ceiling. Pretty cool little critter if you ask me. I've always refered to them as walking sticks. That what you guys call them?

No sir... That is a "PRAYING MANTIS". The "Walking-stick" that you referred to is actually a "PHASMID"...[;)]BTW, if you don't let it out soon, it's gonna die.It needs sunlight and lots of insects to eat.

I knew the above was NOT a "walking stick"--that it is a praying mantis, but I didn't know the proper name for the "stick" critters. Thanks for posting the name. I did a search for it and found some really creepy critters. http://www.phasmid.freeservers.com/0 -

Gently nudge her onto a cardboard, and shoo her out to the garden. The brown color is because she doesn't have enough sunlight.

One of those flew straight into my eye at work last night. Some stick looking bug like those except it was brown. I didn't know they could fly. Scared the crap outta me since I didn't see it coming. 0 -
I've never been bitten by a Mantis and I guess I have handled a couple thousand in my life but a Walking Stick Will bite and they hurt, you'll know when one get's you and you will remember it. Trust Me. 0 -

No, actually they turn up where they turn up, it can be on disturbed land or open meadow, or your yard. Any place there are insects to eat, or whereever they happen to land. Their presence indicates only that they are there.

Some are brown, some are green. There are several species in the US including introduced species.

I have been frequently bitten by mantids (large ones can just barely break the skin), but never by a phasmid. Interesting our experience is so different.0 -
