  Someone will buy it at that price.
  You can buy a Chinese Norinco copy 1897 for 350.00 so a genuine Winchester should go for around 500.00 even if it has been refinished. Winchester closed operations and I see 500.00 lever guns with asking prices of 1100.00

  that Chinese copy has no relevance, I had one worst gun I ever bought.
  considering the crappers I have seen go for $350, that is not crazy
  Dont forget people are stil a little winchester crazy, and that one is popular with those cowboy action
  So i wouldn't be surprised if he gets $500

  None of those guns is cut or refinished. Cutting the barrel and refinishing it will hurt the value considerably.
  
  I would give him $275 for it and that's about it.

  In spite of whatever the dude says, I would say the short barrel has to hurt the price greatly. ...but it's not a trench gun. It's a cowboy short barrel...whatever.
  
  I do enjoy seeing a good 1897 or 97 though. Classic.
