And next month the same guy will probably be pushing a "One Team" campaign...

Shifts are going to compete whether you promote it or not. It has been my experience that the shifts with the least supervision always get the most production.

To call it a promotion, you need to provide more incentive than a point. [:D]

Worked at a company once that called it an "incentive bonus" when we exceeded "their" set standard for 100%. Got paid the percentage we surpassed it by.

If we ran 110% we received 10% bonus on our checks. [:D]
Graveyard shift almost always did the best.
(less big-wigs to get in the way [;)])

A former teacher and escapee from eastern Europe told me that is how it worked in communist country factories. Bonus' for the ones that exceeded the mark. He said, "You know how those bolts got on now? (referring to after the bonus was paid and everyone was expected to now perform at that level) - BANG!".

    Bad idea.

Your production may go up. But the quality will go down.

setting competitions between shifts has never worked for a company.

Nearly willing to bet that the second and third shifts on 8 hours or the night shifts on 12 hours out produce day shifts production already.

The prize is a $20 gas card and a t-shirt for the wining shift. Everytime one of the 4 lines gets over, say 94%, your shift gets a point. Of course the suspicion starts immediately. When a new shift changes a bunch of equipment the first 2 hours, they say "What the heck did they do last shift other than avoid necessary downtime." Its almost always a coincidence, but it still plays in the back of everyones minds. Yes, dayshift is at a distinct disadvantage. My shift is on days 9 times this month. Another is on days only 6 times.

No one is excited about this "game" but its something we are forced to play. The response has been well, the Raleigh facility does it and they claim it works well. I say the Raleigh plant has big a moron running it.

Dayshift employees, those who work straight days get assigned to a shift. So to them, this is just a lottery. No incentive.

Now if the contest was each of the four lines competing with a handicap to adjust for the weaker lines, this could be fun. Line X would compete against production on Line Y. Employees on Line X on all four shifts would have to work together, rather than against each other versus Line Y, Z, and V.

Next time we play one of these games
