DMI Subsoiler

Back in the drought of '88 one end of the home field produced nothing. The other end of the field produced 160 bushels. Out of curiosity dad dug down to look at the subsoil in the field. The south end was a blue clay while the north end was a nice reddish brown.
Long story short, we ran this prototype subsoiler through the field. It was based off the DMI Tiger subsoiler, but that middle point was adjustable. While the two outside points could go down 18 inches, the center point went down 30 inches. The point was 5 inch wide with another 5 inch wing on each side.
We plowed deep that year. Knowingly, we tore the drainage tile out. He had a Spiecer tiling machine so we dug our own ditches and laid the tile. I was the one walking behind the tiler and throwing some dirt back over the tile by hand.
As I walked behind, I noticed every thirty inches there was a hole about the size of a 5X5C5 triangle. The next year we laid some more tile. The holes were still there but about the size of a gulf ball.
That was about 16 or 17 years ago. I wonder if it made a permanent change.
Last I heard, DMI tore the crap out of that machine and it was sitting in there boneyard. Bill Dietrich sold the company to the employees, at least part of it. The they sold it to IHCASE. They kept the plant running for a few years, then shut the plant down. The DMI tillage equipment is made by IHCASE, just elsewhere. Sucks for the former employees.
BTW, I just bought a new scanner.
