Remington releases rifle aimed at Police

Remington has released a the new 7615P pump chambered for the .223, with a box type drop magazine and a A-3 type extendable stock. The Mag holds 10 RDs or it accepts AR-15 Mags. The rifle also comes equiped with Wilson combat Ghost Ring sites or Trijicon night sites. Its built upon the design of the 870 shotgun and appears to be promising for Remington.

    I always thought that a 16" Model 94 in .357 Magnum would be a great police carbine. Short, light and handy it's capable of pretty rapid aimed fire and would be powerful enough without being overly powerful in urban areas. Recoil is almost nil and carries 10-11 rounds.

    I don't see the purpose of this gun. What is it supposed to do better than an AR-15 or any other semi-auto .223?
    If it doesn't do anything better, why not stick with an AR?

    The only advantage I can see is similar controls to the 870 they are already using. Although for someone with a proper amount of training and practice it shouldn't be an issue anyway.

    Haven't these (or very similar Remington models) been out for awhile? Seems like I've been seeing ads for these rifles with a synthetic fixed stock in LE trade magazines for a few years now.

    Their marketing is focused on similarity of controls/operation with the 870, which means lower training costs. They're also probably cheaper per unit than AR's.

    As bad as it sounds, for some agencies these are also probably seen as more PC than the militaristic Black Rifle.

    I first seen the rifle in Police Magazine, some Agencies are not permited to carry a semi-auto due to Police Chiefs Councilmen and Politics. So this rifle being a pump in .223 gives these Agencies the option to have a .223.

    This rifle had been out for a while now. The reason for this model is that it does not require cross training, as mentioned above.

    The majority of police depts use Remington 870's. This rifle is a .223 version of the 870. Since most cops are already familiar with the 870, so training is very simple.

    with it being a pump, they can take more time to place their shots maybe.

    anyone remember the crossfire by s.a.m.?

    not the new pump crossfire but the one that came out in the mid 80's, it was a semi auto 12 gauge/.308

    here is the new one, doesn't come close to the one by s.a.m.

    An over priced pump .223 that takes an AR mag is a dumb idea. I hope Cerebus fired the marketing team that thought this is a good thing. I better Bushmaster is laughing their butts off at their sister company's "big idea".
