Something for you farmboys. (Tractor Ride)
Every year for the past 11 years, 1040AM WHO Radio in Des Moines sponsors the Great Iowa Tractor Ride. This year event is occuring locally, and there are over 500 tractors from around the state and US making the 180 mile trek. There were six groups of riders, categorized according to speed. Depending on the group, you can go no faster than the slowest tractor. I was able to get out and take a few pictures as a couple of groups past by. As you can probably tell, I'm a little partial to IH Red.

Beautiful tractors. At one point, my dad had about 7 tractors that were all pre-1950s. 1934 Case was one of the earliest ones. Fun stuff!

I have a 1955 International 300 Utility that I've been collecting parts for. Hopefully I can start restoring it next year.

Nice looking old A John Deere. Always loved to hear them old Johnny Poppers run.0 -
not as much horsepower as the later ones but more than it should. 45 over m&w aluminum. 0 -
Looks like RAGTRAI instead of RAGBRAI.
RAGBRAI - Register's Annual Great Bike (Tractor) Ride Across Iowa.
The Des Moines Register (newspaper) sponsors a week long bike ride/party across the state of Iowa. Tradition has you dip your back tire in the Missouri River at the start and your front tire in the Mississipi River at the conclusion.

1. Nice Cockshut. I always loved the sheetmetal and a good paint job on them.
2. Is that a V8 in the Red Ford in Pic #10?
3. Think I haven't seen a Deere R with a cab like that since the 2 cylinder show in Waterloo.
Thanks.0 -
Nope not a v8 in that ford, just the way the exhaust runs. Though ford did have a Flathead v8 conversion back in the day. 0 -
That last tractor has indoor plumbing[:0] 0 -
Very, very nice, but you're right, it's a little red heavy.[:D]
A very good cross section of old iron. I am impressed with the Minneapolis Z, that was just about the ugliest tractor known to man.
The red ford is a model 600 workmaster, one of Fords best. The Fords that had the V-8s were the 8Ns with Funk conversions. They were offered in 6 and 8 cylinders. The Funk corporation originally made aircraft.
Thanks Sarge!0 -
Thanks for the pics Sarge. I'm a JD guy, but your little 300 looks like a great project.

Usually, these are 3 day events. This year was the first year that they went out and came back to the same town, or had a host town. If you click on my link above you can see the routes they took.0 -
