This is a NON Polilical thread...

1. What Party ( Republican or Democrat) was Abraham Lincoln ( Civil War ) ?

2. What Party (Republican or Democrat) was Woodrow Wilson ( World War 1) ?

3. What Party (Republican or Democrat) was FDR and Harry Truman ( World War 2 ) ?

    #1 Republican (although the party has made drastic changes in out look since those days)

    I am not sure of #2 off the top of my head.

    Lincoln was a Republican. The first from the party elected. The GOP was formed as an abolitionist party opposed to slavery and his election caused the Southern slave-holding states to start seceding even before he was sworn in. Irony is that until the 1960s blacks were most Republican but LBJ bought the black vote with welfare payments and the Dems still have it.

    Wilson was Democrat. Only president to have a Ph.D., by the way. Also had a law degree.

    Both FDR and Truman were Democrats.

    Are you unsure of the answers to your questions or are you trying to make some point?

    All the rest - Democrats.

    Neither Party is what they started out to be.

    That is why I stated what I did about the republican party with Lincoln.

    Back in those days the republicans were more like the democrats of today.

    I was just wanting to find out which party the WAR presidents were. Looks like the Democratic presidents won some wars. Of course Vietnam and Iraq were never declared wars.

    I heard one guy from Chicago claim more democrat President's have actually sent troops into conflict than the other party. He attributed to some kind of small dog complex. They have been perceived as the party of appeasement and the democrat Presidents consequently have an itchier trigger finger. I was a theory that had some merit.

    I can't say Kerry would have done a complete cut & run if he were President now. I would not surprise me is he would have gone the other way and added troops because he's John Kerry. I suspect his ego does not let him admit personal failure too much.

    I think President Clinton would probably also sent troops into Afghanistan and Iraq if he were still President in 2000-2004.

    I believe that more wars have been fought during Dem administrations than Reps and the last war we won was WW II when we were willing to target civilians. Wars are now political and unless one is willing to kill anyone who gets in your way one cannot win. that's why we will never win another war while the Muslim terrorists will because they will stop at nothing.

    That may be the case until they take out a major city in the US. Then we may reconsider our PC ways![:0][:0]
