Gun Stolen At The Gun Show
We had a 6" Smith 586 stolen today.
We noticed it almost immediately but could not identify a suspect. We reported the theft to the show promoter and asked him to make an announcement and alert the police working the show and anyone working the doors. He did not.
We also asked him to have a police officer, of which there were several working the show, come over and take a theft report. He did. TWO HOURS later.
We won't be going to Houston for a gun show anytime soon, nor any other "High Caliber" gun show promoted by Todd Bean.

Whoa! Those guys are out there a ways. Texas is a big place, you know, and Houston was a pretty good trek for us. Steve said he would be cutting back on shows, and probably concentrate on the ones in easy driving distance of our area.0 -
David they run shows here in NM, so I was not sure how far from home they worked.
I always remember the sign on I-10 going east out of El Paso that says Dallas 550 miles. Then there is East Texas. Yeah it is big. I knew a feller there that owned a ranch so big the sun rose and set between the chuck wagon and the ranch house.0 -
I remember seeing a funny postcard on a rack in a restaurant, back before the Interstate system. It was a cartoon depiction of a ragged out family, tired and sweating, driving in a dilapidated station wagon. The caption read, "The sun is riz, the sun is set, and here we is, in Texas yet." 0 -
I'm sorry for your loss I think the person who took the gun will not be caught because of the lack of response by the promoter, you should have went to the door and reported it yourself. I know hind sight is great. and you cant put up so many safe gaurds to totally prevent this, it kind of goes against the philosophy of the shows, as does the theft of a weapon by one of our breathern.
I am so sorry for the loss of the gun and the loss of the faith.

That is a large show. The one they hold in the Astro Arena is even larger. I once worked security there when I worked for the Harris County SO. It was a mad house back then, and I'm sure it still is.

but a thief in the night is unseen, that will do you no good, i would ask myself why would a thief that has an entire gun show to choose from pic your table , and a revolver of all things, i'm sure there where better more valuable guns, you have to look at the opportunity, and it's weakness0 -

I was a Knob Creek 2 years ago and an announcement came on the PA that someone had stolen a M-60. I thought to myself how the hell do you lose a M-60, and who would have the balls to take it? I am sure the owner was just sick to his stomach. 0 -

If I were at a show and SAW someone steal a gun and head for the exit, I would try to track him on a parallel course, not letting him know I was onto him, and when close enough, body slam him. If he knew I was after him, I would shout, "THIEF!" while chasing him. He would not make it to the exit.0 -
