What happened to the 16 gauge? Ammo is really hard to come by?

    I hope not...I have an awesome 16Ga collection.... Infact one of them is my bunny gun....
    I have to buy 16ga at gunshows... you are right hard too find locally!!!

    I've still got my old 16ga Remington 1148. The one that takes 5 minutes to recycle.... I love it. [:)][:)] I still use it for pheasants.

    Naw. 16's aren't dead. Ammo is not too hard to find. I mean, you can't walk into just ANY store and find it, but it is out there. Might be hard to find NOW because of dove season or something.

    Yea what's hard to find is a store that sells ammo for a reasonable price!!!

    I was down at the Sportsman's Warehouse in Sacramento recently and they had a ton of 16ga for sale, give or take a pound. Pre dove season sale, of course. I was surprised they had such a huge amount. [:0][;)]

    Just picked up a decent Remington 58 in 16 ga. for $150. Gonna make a sweet rabbit gun. 16ga. is not hard to find around here.

    That's what you can't find here! Even wally world carries 16. Gander Mountain has lots of loads for 16. But no one seems to have 28. Luck for me that my son loves my Browning Sweet 16. That is the one gun I have that he wants.

    If you mean that you can't go down to Walmart & get the same deals on 16s that you can on 20s & 12s, then you're right. And a few years ago when Winchester discontinued AA16 wads I became concerned. However the last few years have seen a plethora of new entries in the 16 ga market, both in loaded ammo and in components. Check the catelogs from Precision Reloading and Ballistic Products, you'll find several wads in addition to the standby SP16. Hulls are available from just about all the makers- Win, Rem, Fed, Fio, Che, etc. Loaded ammo may not be on every stores shelves, but is available at sporting goods stores and mail order, not only from Win, Fed, Rem, but also Kents Tungsten Matrix and Bismuth for us older barrel guys.

    I have no fears at all concerning obtaining proper loads for my Model 12,21,37 16 gauge shotguns.

    16GA shells are still available by the boat load at the distribution whses. Dealers are probably not ordering any because most folks have a 12 or 20. I'll bet if you ask your dealer, he/ she can get what you want at a pretty decent proce.

    ...Still plenty of ammo to be found, not as abundant as 12, but available. I heard once a plausable reason why the manufacturing of 16's died off, but for the life of me I cant remember it now, big help huh [8D]. It's a great gauge if you dont reload and dont care for the recoil of a 12.

    ...Bought a new WingMaster years ago, sold it about 6-7 years ago because shells for it were a bit higher than for my 12's; one of the only guns Ive ever sold I wish I had back...[;)]

    I bought this old Browning 16 gauge a few years back. It looks like a riot gun and is stamped "US Property". It was made in the 1920's. If anyone knows anything about this gun I would appreciate any info, so I could post it on my web page.

    It's ain't easy to find. Wal-Mart has 16 gauge in season only. Farm&Fleet generally doesn't have it. Big R has the best selection I've found in Northern Illinois. Rural King is Lichfield also has a good selection in South Central Illinois. I generally buy a little when I find it.
