HazMat/Rescue Training
I'm being added to the HazMat Rescue Team at work. I get to spend all week at a local Fire Department, packing a 2+week course into one. Supposed to be in the 90's today and tomorrow. We're going to be suiting up the rest of the week with practice senarios.

i always get a kick out of watching hazmat teams working on local tv news reals. there they are, all duped up in the gear and the onlookers and bulldozer operators are standing around 5 ft away watching them while smoking cigarettes. its a riot!

I love rescue emergency training classes. The last one I was at for work was a Swift Water Rescue training. It was a either a two or three day class at the Eureka, Missouri fire department. Fist day was in the class. Last day was at Thunder River at Six Flags. The amusement park ride was gaurrentted to have swift water. Plus, they added 50,000 pounds of ice to make it more interesting.
Unfortunately, I cannot swim for I didn't get to go down Thunder River in a wetsuit and life jacket. The guys that did had sore butts for a week. There are cut off pieces of telephone poles under the water to make the rapids, and they were quite painful.
Learned a lot from the class and wrote a good barge rescue training manual and hosted a river rescue training class for the company. I was very proud to make a rescue plan that was more than Emergency Action Plan BS and was a lasting impact towards creating a safer workplace. Plus guys had a fun time doing cannonballs off a barge into the Mississippi River.
We did learn how useless the 30 inch lifering is, even thought OSHA requires it. A good throwbag is much more beneficial. (EVAC makes a good one.) If I had a boat I would keep two good throw bags on it.
Sorry about the rambling, but I do enjoy a good safety training class.
