found this in a pile of dads old stuff. i cant figure out why it has a 'split rim' insert in the middle axis. what would this go on? what kind of saw?[?]

Maybe an OLD table saw that's not powered by an electric motor. Or maybe it's an old wobble dato blade? 0 -
The split rim is part of an arbor for mounting it on a motor shaft. That kind of mount is usually used for pulleys or gears, but that does look like a saw blade, and a fairly rough cutting one at that. So, I say it is a blade from a small saw mill. 0 -

oddly enough, the blade itself is free of the hub. i can spin that hub; yet, its so tight a tolerence, the blade wont fall off.[?]
but now that you mention it, dad did have a homemade table saw that ran off of a 1/3hp electric motor that ran a fan belt to a saw blade. the tension kept tight by the weight of the motor that was mounted on a hinge and it hung free. could that be what this was used for? i just cant see how it would work on a belt/pully/axle?0 -
With the size and the spacing of the teeth I'd guess the tool would need high RPM and/or a powerful motor to be effective. It's about the right size for a hand held circular saw. [?] 0 -
In my experence with thoes types of arbors, the two little hole, they appear to be filled with dirt on yours, are threaded and when you put bolts in them and tighten them down, they push on the blade/pulley/gear(which has a tapered hole that the arbor goes through) and that compresses the arbor locking it onto the shaft. 0 -

i agree with dak, the blade is 3/16th" thick. and that isnt dirt in those holes, they are metal studs from the other side of the hub....like alignment studs. the other 2 holes out near the teeth puzzles me too. why for they be there at all, ehh?[?]

The two outer holes are for putting a pin or punch through to hold blade from turning while loosening the arbor nut. 0 -
however the mounting system works, I think it's a sawmill table saw blade cuz of not only the size of the teeth but the space between them. for small peices of raw lumber. 0 -

It's an index gear for a gatling gun . Note the way the projections on the circumference will snap into a pawl when the manually cranked rotation occurs.
