Oh Lord, what did I get myself into ?
I just came back from a parents meeting for my son and his first year of T-ball.
I got recruted as head coach!
I have never really been a big baseball fan (although I did play little league as a kid) and really have no idea what I am doing!
All I can say is:
God, grant me the
SERENITY
to accept the things
I cannot change
COURAGE
to change the
things I can
and
WISDOM
to know the difference!

Good luck with that one. 0 -
3 things
do not say "keep your eye on the ball"
do not say "tie goes to the runner"
do not say "swing level"
those are little league sayings and oh wait nevermind........good luck[:)]0 -
Good luck! Youll need it! If you have any questions, im going to do umpire this summer
Dont make me throw you out of the game, mister, Better tell your fans to calm down before i eject your team from the game. Fair warning, next time im throwing you out.

By the time this is over I may need to be thrown out for reasons of insanity![:D]0 -
I coached ball for years until I got stuck on the graveyard shift...
You won't regret it 15 years from now when some young man walks up to you at Mickey D's and says "Hi coach remember me" and you see a young man that you helped to shape into a fine example of a mam....And you can take that to the bank....0 -
Did you have sucker written on your head or just a kick me sign on your back?[:D]
Just kidding. Best of luck to you and I'm glad to see the kids will have a good role model for a coach.0 -

Does that mean I can't be like the coach from the first Bad News Bears movie?[:D]0 -
My daughter played for one year when she was little and it is amazing how SERIOUS some of the parents are!!! They are so psycho its unreal....talking about when "my child is playing pro" and they are only 6 or 7. Good luck and I hope you have a fun time of it....in spite of the moms and dads you will definately have to deal with.
By the way....my daughter couldn't stand playing because of how bad it got and we didn't try any more. We haven't had as much with my son's football so he still plays....but I just know one of those parent "melt downs" are coming one day soon.0 -

you can from the original but not from the remake[:p]0 -
Never duck out of one of those meetings for a smoke or to use the toilet because when you come back you will have been elected coach by the other parents who were smart eough to stay put! My oldest girl played soccer for over 10 years but assistant coach was my limit. Good luck coach! 0 -

Which is why, you give them one warning, the parent, throw them out after, if they dont leave, time for cops.
If'n that happens, you warn the coach on THAT matter - then if his crowd gets routy, another warning
One more he is out of the game. Also, if someone says a bad word, one warning, another, their out, again, leave the park. If its directed at you, or a call you made, Their automatically removed.0 -
Leave your piece in the truck. Bats are for hitting the ball, not the parents. 0 -

I enjoyed coaching my kids T-Ball, soccer and Jr. Track teams. The Kids are great....some of the parents were a royal pain. 0 -

I'm sure I'll enjoy it. I just was not prepaired for the position.
And me out there with all the metal I got holding my body together should be a site!0 -

As for baseball I still like this!

Coach with beer in hand![:D]0 -
Coach Done, I have some advise. Establish early on that you have three priorities...
1) Make sure the kids have fun.
2) Teach as far as possible a few fundimental skills.
3) Make it all fun for the kids.
None of these involve parents, million dollar contracts or super stars. Enjoy coaching, I'm sure you'll have a blast.0 -
Just make sure you bring plenty of beer for you and the kids. It'll make the games go a lot faster... 0 -
Sounds familiar. Back in the 70s I took my oldest son to a rec. center to sign him up to play little league baseball to. We were to meet on the next Saturday morning for the first practice. Well, I was the only male parent that showed up and guess who was voted as the head coach. Yep, that was me. It turned out to be a great experience and I enjoyed it a lot. We finished second in the city that year which was not bad for a new team with unexperienced players and coach. We went on to win the championship the next two years before I retired and went to coaching basketball.
You learn a lot about parents that's for sure. They can get down right nasty at times. So I just got nasty back at them.
Little Johnny don't get to start on my team if he doesn't come to practice and I don't care how good of a player he is.

Git r done- Enjoy this time with your kids. Before you know it they will be grown and gone. I have coached mine since T-Ball. It is the beginning of some of the greatest memory makers you will have. 0 -
First, I commend you for getting involved in your son's activities, esp for a single-parent. Second, get the other parents' support and help you out - it's hard to do it alone, so share the challenge. Lastly, with all the precious metals holding you up, do not use your RIA metal as an attitude adjustment or motivational tool [:p][}:)][^].
Good luck!0 -
Hit the ball, not the Tee.
Run counter clockwise around the base.0
