    just curious,but what are you doing?4" pipe is really big for(Im assuming) residential stuff unless its drain pipe.

    Wow,Thats outside my realm of knowledge,but it seams like there would be an estimated demand in gpm for a house baised on sq. footage and # of bathrooms.Has there been a flow test done on the hydrants?If so what were the results?Also do you know the configuration of the underground main?

    Well JFYI, a residential 3/4" water meter at 60 psi has a flow rate of 7 gallons a minute. How many houses can run off of a 4" main is a function of how many toilets and showers are running at one time.

    Q = V*A
    Quantity = Velocity x Area

    A 1/2" pipe will carry about 7.3 and a 3/4" about 11 gpm, I seem to recall from class.

    Pressure means nothing without velocity.
