Plumbing Help!
I'm looking for some help with calculating water flow. I need to figure out how many gallons per minute or hour will flow through a pipe. Pipe sizes are 1/2" 3/4" and 4". Pressure will be 30 and 40 psi. I know length is a factor but i'm looking for the maximum each pipe will handle. Could someone post a formula or a site that will calculate the conversions. Thanks

just curious,but what are you doing?4" pipe is really big for(Im assuming) residential stuff unless its drain pipe.0 -

Wow,Thats outside my realm of knowledge,but it seams like there would be an estimated demand in gpm for a house baised on sq. footage and # of bathrooms.Has there been a flow test done on the hydrants?If so what were the results?Also do you know the configuration of the underground main?0 -
Well JFYI, a residential 3/4" water meter at 60 psi has a flow rate of 7 gallons a minute. How many houses can run off of a 4" main is a function of how many toilets and showers are running at one time. 0 -
Q = V*A
Quantity = Velocity x Area
A 1/2" pipe will carry about 7.3 and a 3/4" about 11 gpm, I seem to recall from class.
Pressure means nothing without velocity.0
