Break Out the Champagne!
Tonight I had my first bottle of Dom Perignon. It was a birthday gife from a woman I know. I would have never spent that kind of money on a bottle of alcohol for myself.
While better than domestic Champagne, it doesn't come close to the body and richness of a nice Chardonney.
Unless you get on the Apprentice or just want to impress people, I would say bypass the Dom Perignon and get a bottle of Australian or Napa Valley wine.[;)]

The women in our group prefer Veuve Clicquot (pronounced VOOV). Dom is quality stuff but it ought to be for its excessive price. 0 -
Congrats on drinking one of the finest champagnes, P3. There are other fantastic champagnes but the Dom Perignon is a true hallmark. 0 -
A guest at one of our New Year's Eve parties brought me my first taste of Dom. I loved it. He died a year later. I still have the bottle.

I'm not a champagne fan. That being said, a gift of Dom certainly makes a statement!!
Champagne drinkers I know also enjoy Mums and Pommeroy champagne. Both high quality and not as pricey.......
I like beer.

you WERE drinking a chardonay,..true high end champagnes are 100% chardonay grapes, with bubbles.
Dom is good,..I like Perier Jouet better however. It is right at about the same price,...then there is the famous Roederer Estate Crystal. But at roughly $275/btl (what I sell it for anyway) it is too pricey for me to find a value in it.

Myself, I use to stick my little pinky out as I sat back and enjoyed a nice goblet of Maddog 20/20. Much more class than a glass of Thunderbird. [:D] 0 -

I was just looking at a few sites for the Roederer Estate Crystal and I see it priced up in the $500-600 range. Yikes!
I stopped at the Northern California Roederer owned Winery and found some fantastic tasting Rose blends of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. Never tasted anything so fine! Bought several bottles and drank them quickly.

Ah, yes, the good old days of drinking "fortified" sweet wines. I remember Ripple and Thunderbird, but do you remember T.J. Swan's "Easy Nights," or "Mellow Days?" And oh yeah, we simply cannot forget the wonderful sanguine taste (and effect) of a warm bottle of "Mad Dog."
Sigh---simpler times!!

If you enjoy the Napa Chards, you should try some of the ones from down my way, the Central Coast of CA. A lot of the Napa and Sonoma wineries have vineyards or interests in vineyards here.0
