Deputy Sheriff playing bumper tag
Something you don't see every day is a Deputy Sheriff playing bumper tag with the public in a marked Deputy Sheriff car. Yesterday I was West bound on US-58 about sixty miles West of Virginia Beach. I was doing 67 MPH in a 60 MPH zone. There was a Toyota in the left lane behind me going a little faster than I was. There was a Deputy Sheriff in the right lane behind both of us doing about 67 MPH. When the Toyota pulled even with me the Deputy pulled into the left lane and got on it, pulled up about bumper to bumper with the Toyota. It must have scared the Toyota driver because he pulled in front of me pretty quick. Not quick enough to call it dangerous, but quick enough that I had to tap my brakes to keep from riding up his butt.
As soon as the Toyota got into the right lane, the Deputy cut in front of him and hit his brakes. There was probably room for a full box of toothpicks between the Toyota front bumper and the Deputy's rear bumper. The Toyota hit the brakes and took to the left lane to keep from riding up the Deputy's butt. I hit the brakes to stay away from both of them. As soon as the Toyota got stabilized he cut back in front of me. He was determined not to pass the Deputy. The Deputy hit the brakes again. The Toyota hit the brakes again. I hit the brakes again.
I almost expected the Deputy to pull him over and write him a ticket. I had already decided if the Deputy either wrecked him or wrote him a ticket I was going to pull over and volunteer to be a witness for the Toyota, but I'm guessing the Deputy must have realized how stupid his little trick was, because he kicked it and hove out of sight.

I think this happens more often than you think. My father observed a marked patrol car in the right lane doing about 3 over the limit. The car in the left was doing maybe 1/2 mph faster and took about 5 minutes but eventaully passed the patrol car. As soon as he passed, the patrol car put on the lights and pulled him over. We assumed he got a ticket. 0 -
Well in the winter I saw a couple of patrol cars parked by a popular sledding area. Figuring the kids were causing trouble I stopped and looked. Nobody there but two cops riding the tops of their trunk storage containers down the hill again and again. 0 -

sorry, but if you pass a patrol car going over the speed limit by even 1mph you've got more money than you have brains.

sorry, but if you pass a patrol car going over the speed limit by even 1mph you've got more money than you have brains.

A long time ago when I was young and stupid, I pulled along side an LEO on the highway. He was going slightly faster than the limit. I was in my 1973 Corvette and wanted to go faster than he. When we were next to each other, I looked over and questioningly gestured if I could proceed. He consented, and I slowly pulled away with no adverse consequences.
A little manners goes a long way.0
