My Sunday project
Since my upstairs neighbors moved this weekend and cleared out their corner of the basement, I decided I'd utilize the extra space and make a little work shop for myself. I found this assemble-it-yourself work bench at Menard's for $65. The top measures 6' x 2' and it's 32" off the floor. This up coming weekend my parents are driving my truck out here and they're bringing my small drill press, bench grinder, and 5" vise; so I'll have a fairly decent work space.

I say that looks good, sand it down a little, stain it and maybe resinate the top so its a solid surface, or plexi glass the top and anchor it to the wall. thats what Id do. Or use it just as is, looks good![:)] 0 -
I'm going to use it as is, and the top will eventually get stained with various oils, solvents, greases, and fuels. 0 -
That's a fine looking table for $65.00! And, plenty of space too. 0 -
Now reenforce everything with two by sixes and you will have a sturdy workbench.

A nice tip for a bench like this is to cut a piece of masonite the same size as the top. It's a good hard surface, easily cleaned and if it gets banged up you can easily replace it. I put it on all my benches.

Let there be light!!! All of the wiring in that corner of the basement is on the upstairs' meter so I improvised. I had an extra halogen stand lamp in the apartment so I ran an extension cord from my part of the basement to a heavy power strip anchored to the bench. I can't wait for more of my tools to arrive so I can get to work on some projects. Now I have light and 5 outlets in my new little workshop, my own small slice of heaven. 0 -
A great start. Trolling old service stations being dismantled, I lucked into all-steel 30" x 72" benches stat can support an engine. For $20 each! But I've build plenty of the wood ones.
My current choice is a solid-core door on saw horses.0
