To SIGFAN, use of expanding ammo during war is against the rules of the Hague convention. Nobody can use it (legally) which is why every military force in the world uses FMJ ammo.

The Hague convention never outlawed hollow point ammo, it only outlawed "dum-dum" bullets, which in the parlance of the day meant softpoint ammo. Dum-dum is named after the Calcutta, India arsenal where the softpoint bullets where being made in 1899 when the Conventions where passed. And the wording was thus, adopted on 29 July 1899:

"The Contracting Parties agree to abstain from the use of bullets which expand or flatten easily in the human body, such as bullets with a hard envelope which does not entirely cover the core, or is pierced with incisions. The present Declaration is only binding for the Contracting Powers in the case of a war between two or more of them.
It shall cease to be binding from the time when, in a war between the Contracting Parties, one of the belligerents is joined by a non-Contracting Power."

The United States never signed it, and it would be moot even if we did, since our present enemy never signed it.

However, we did sign Hague Convention IV of 1907, Article 23e which states:"...it is especially forbidden to employ arms, projectiles, or material calculated to cause unnecessary suffering;"

So, if you consider that as outlawing hollow point ammo, it should outlaw just about anything else, like napalm.

    Also, there is this:

A 23 September 1985 opinion issued by the Judge Advocate General, authored by W. Hays Parks, Chief of the JAG's International Law Branch, which stated:
"...expanding point ammunition is legally permissible in counterterrorist operations not involving the engagement of the armed forces of another State."

We are not fighting the armed forces of ANY state, we are fighting insurgents and terrorists. So, yes hollow point ammo could be used.

The 1911s we were issued in the early 1970 were worn out POS.They had probably been around since WW2.

With advent of the M4 carbine, I'd say the need for a pistol has gone by the wayside. Back in DESERT STORM, even though I was issued a .45, I always carried an M16 whenever I went out.

What would it be: Colt 1911A1
Why: Reliable and it gets the job done
    What caliber: .45 (duh)
What features: as is. fixed sights and all... it's a backup gun and doesn't need fancy crap on it.

my choice would be a large caliber many round auto weapon with the primary feature of a large ambidextrous PC switch one could quickly flip to ON when the need arises & would allow for the certain immediate death of the antagonist without the need of a lawyer on standby......

They had to be. The military has not purchased any since 1945. I think they should be surplussed out thru the CMP to us for $25 each. Then: Buy Sig P220s .45 Cal. Because they do not fail Features: Issue two of'em

Maybe a 9mmx23, 1911 style w/ double stack mag, firing a truncated cone bullet similar to the original DWM P08 9mm bullet.
The pistol should have a SA/DA feature, no safety except decocker.
Sights need to be bold combo tritium/light stick in green.
This caliber makes major power, shoots flatter than 9mm ,40S&W and 45ACP and surpasses the 357SIG which equates to the 357 mag.
The grip frame should not contain any mechanism that adds to grip width or circumference.

A "1911 style" SA/DA gun with NO safety, but WITH a decocker? That is not a 1911.

My personal opinion, H&K USP .45 full size. You can mount a flashlight or laser if need be, and its made to be used with a silencer.[:D][;)]

high point of course, pick your caliber, according to the group spamming the board it never jams, impervious to a kb, slide is made of the same material as the black box in commercial airliners, the frame is made of space shuttle tiles, internal parts are made of metal so tuff it hasn't been invented yet, accuracy is so good a 9mm makes a .005 mm with 10 rounds at 100 yards, it's called "the santa claus effect"

all this for 150 bucks, so its the logical choice

Yeah, but if our government contracted for them they would pay $500 each.

The 1911 style meaning it has the tilt locking barrel feature, same grip angle and takedown but with DA/SA features, a double stack mag
and no safeties. These basic features are Browning features.

And what gun would that be? The 1911 take down is one of the dumbest. One of the best is the Sig.
