shotgun scope
whats a good shotgun scope for about $100-$175? my shooting distance can range anywhere from 10 yards to 100 yards. must be able to hold up to 12 gauge recoil. any thoughts? thanks

BSA's Rugged Law Enforcement Red Dot scope works great on my Mossberg 835, even with the 3 1/2 inch Magnums. Its about a $50.00 scope but works great. Good Luck! 0 -

lol, well i was just stating that i dont want a high power scope is if the deer is run at 10-20 yards i can accually find it.0 -
hell any good red dot should work even lower end scopes like tasco are good enough for shotguns you can get them for $20.00 0 -

I have a Tasco PPII on one of my shotguns. It has survived hundreds of round of 12 ga. slugs. Easier to get on target than a scope and faster follow up shots if necessary. 0 -

Nikon 2x7x32
I used to have a simmons on mine but it gave up the ghost I replaced it with the Nikon I really like the it Very clear and has the fast focus eye peice.0 -
depends on if it is a pump, bolt action, or semi-auto. For a pump or bolt, the higher end of the lesser names like Bushnell, or simmons will work. If it is a semi-auto...BURRIS, BURRIS, AND BURRIS!!!! 0 -

I never use anything bigger than 7 1/2 birdshot...Also I use a rifle on game, I dont need a half pound of lead to knock a deer down.. [;)][:o)][:o)]when a well placed .223 V-Max hornady will do the trick.[:0] 0 -

I use only Leupold shotgun scopes on my slug guns. Low power! They cost a bit more than your upper end range, but are CERTAINLY worth it. 1-4X

Classic in a lot of states your rifles are illegal for deer, and shotguns are the only modern long guns allowed. Scopes are handy for turkey hunting for sure, but just 2x to 4x. 0 -
Scope on a Shotgun: good idea if you're using a rifled slug barrel with no bead on it. makes it easier than sighting down the scope mount. I chose a simmons 1.5-5 power x 32mm objective I think. I bought it about 10 years ago for maybe 75 bucks when I didn't have any money. Holds up on my Mossberg 835 too. The brand isn't very important (IMO) but I'd like to upgrade one of these days. 1.5-5 power is great for shooting sabots out to a hundred yards. I keep it on the lowest power until I see a deer, then if it's far out, I have time to crank it up. 0 -

Leupold VX-1 - 3-9 X 40 is what I like - wouldn't mind a 4-12 either for the longer shots. My first deer with a gun this year was at 11 yards with the scope on 4X - not a problem. I sure don't see a need for anything less than 3X and that 9X is sure nice when you can use it. 0 -
I use a scope, even though most of the shots I have had on deer were under 50 yards.
Scopes gather light, and make shots possible for about ten more minutes, very early, and very late in the day, than you could make with iron sights.
Also, scopes allow you to see if there is a little branch or grapevine in the way.
Last year I had a buck hidden in the bushes, 40 yards away. Looking through my scope, I saw a little 3 inch wide tunnel through the bush that led straight to his shoulder. I aimed right down that tunnel, and dropped him in his tracks.
I would neve have tried that shot with iron sights.0 -

i was thinkin bout the 1-4, but do they gather enough light? the objective is pretty small. this or the nikon 2-70 -

The lower the power, the more light it gains. You will not be disappointed with the 1-4 Leupold. Plenty of light. We were able to hunt until 1/2 hour AFTER sunset this year, the only way I could have shot is with the light gathering scope.

The Nikon Prostaff 2-7 shotgun scope is a really good deal, Had one on my slug gun for a few years with no problems, its clear and never fogged and held zero....... good luck. 0 -

I would second this. Check out the Nikon Pro Staff. I put one on my first T/C Omega because my eyes have a hard time keeping three things in line (target, front sight post, rear sight aperture) when there is snow falling at an angle across my field of vision. It's easier for me to just line up the crosshairs with the target. I noticed this problem while qualifying with my M-16 at Fort Drum back in 2000. It wasn't an easy task but I qualified just shy of my usual score. My eyes always wanted to follow the snow. My next scope will probably be that Nikon for my current T/C Omega because late ML season in Iowa is in December.0 -

i put an extra bsa red dot i picked up on my 50AE and it has not broke (yet) should work on a shotgun0 -

There is no better shotgun scope for the money.
They run about $130 and give very generous eye relief.0
