Tires
The tires on my '94 Ford Explorer are begining to go bald and I figure it won't be long before I'll have to replace them. I was wondering what a ballpark figure would be of how much 4 tires would set me back?
This will be the first set of tires we'll have to buy for this car. My parents got it new and as the factory set were about ready to be replaced, firestone had their blowouts on explorers. So they gave us a new set which we used for a year until they gave us another brand. It's at 157k miles right now without ever buying tires.

I'm looking for a good all terrain tire in 31-10.5 15, any suggestions? Price is an issue, I don't want to spend much more than $100 a tire if I don't have to. 0 -

I am looking for a good set of tires for a Saturn Vue AWD. The vehicle came with 235/60/17 which is kind of an oddball size. I really liked the BFG AT/KO's that I had on my Blazer, but I am not sure if they make anything that will fit this vehicle(without having to get new wheels anyways). The ride is really not all that important to me and they must have a more aggresive tread and handle well in snowy conditions. Any reccomendations?

Cooper ct or cts. Benefits of both mud terrain and all terain in one. Think of it as an aggressive all terain. Got around 50000 miles out of'em and still had tread left. They are 10 ply. Or get a set of BFG's. 0 -
Yokomama Geolander 051's
My parents bought a set for their Cherokee, over the factory Goodyears. Goodyears cost literally twice as much for 1/2 the tire.
If you want them to look hardcore as well, save some money and get these....
Kumho Ventures Not nearly the tire that the Yokohma is, but you can save more money.
Whatever you decide on, look to buy them from www.tirerack.com. By far the cheapest place even with shipping.
I bought some Pirelli PZero's last year for my Miata. Sears had them listed for $289/ea. Tire rack had them for $102/ea. Cost me $32 to ship the four of them and I had them in 2 days.0 -
Nitto grappler AT's in the size you are looking for are 98 a tire here plus mount and balance. I have a friend in the 4x4 club that runs em and they seem to do very well. 0 -

+1 on the cooper's. They also make one with a little less aggressive tread too.0 -
Going to be tough getting truck tires under $100. Just did my truck with 4 Mastercrafts ( Cooper ) for $630 for everything including tire repair, rotation every 5K mile and warranty. AT 2 Mastercrafts have aggressive shoulder tread for off road. 0 -
I have to agree with cubslover about Yokomama. A lot of the tires for the big rigs are Yokomama. 0 -
Going with a cheap tire for the truck you have will only cost in the long run. A cheap tire wears a lot faster than a good tire. A BF Goodrich AT or Goodyear Wrangler AT would be better. I have had both. The BFG's last a bit longer.

Too bad you can't use 16". I have 4 265/75/16's c load range with 12/32" of rubber that came off the truck . Wrong load range for the truck. Less than 1/2 price . 0 -
Depends on the car, i wouldnt spend 400-500 bucks for tires on a junker. New tires can be had for 30-50 bucks a peice 0 -
Every flipping all-terrain tire review I've read online talks about how good they look on so-and-so's truck. I'd like some real information. The WideTrac Baja AT's I currently have weren't too bad when they were new, but after 40,000 miles, they're a bit slippery. 0 -
I went hunting a few weeks back. The mastercrafts were great in the super muddy picked cornfield. In fact another hunter would not take his Z-71 out in the field, for fear of getting stuck. I told him my Ford would pull him out. They clean well when going thru mud , an important factor. If they pack full they just well be slicks. 0 -

Even so, you can take your wheels/tires with you. Keep your old tires.0
