Assisted opening folders

I am looking for a high quality assisted opening folding knife, with less than 3" blade. (As close to 3" as possible, but definitely under 3", for legal purposes.) Any suggestions?

    Kershaw - model 1660ST Slim, regular blade or partially serated, for around $60.00 if I remember correctly. Has lock, belt clip and rounded edges so it won't snag. Spring assisted one finger opening.

    Take a look at the Kershaw line. I have a really nice "Speed Safe Blur" but it has a 3 1/4" blade. Benchmade makes great knives and they have a few in their line up now. I carry a Benchmade Auto and I won't be without one again.

    I carry a Gerber Valotten (sp?) every day. It has proven to be a sturdy, handy and holds a good edge.

    I love my Kershaw, I keep the safety off and when Im in uniform i place it at the left corner of my left pocket. With the blade kept pushed against my leg pocket to keep it shut. Then I can actually open the blade with one hand. There are methods in law enforcement now as how to use it on gun grabs, to cut the perp so he lets go of your sidearm. You can wear it in normal clothing the same way, I do. I mean really if you need it and your lucky enough to get your hand on the knife, you cant say "wait let me take my safety off".

    Yeah, make sure you go to your state legislature's website and ensure that what you want is legal. In a lot of states, the 3" rule is for regular knives, while assisted openers or automatic knives are illegal no matter what size they are.

    I live in Virginia. Switchblades and ballistic knives are illegal, but I have never seen anything that says assisted opening knives are illegal. They sell them all the time at gun shops here.

    I have a small Kershaw ($20 I think at my Base Exchange) and I love it! It's the best pocket knife I've ever known. Twice I've had minor repairs needed (the assistance bar eventually breaks) and the company sent me new parts ASAP and free of charge.

    I've owned this knife for over 2 years, and I use it almost every day. However, it's never needed sharpening. It is just the sharpest darn knife I've ever owned (non-fillet).

    Did I mention I love it?[:D]

    I have a couple of Kershaw Black Onions. Too long for your laws, but fine knives, I too recommend Kershaw blades.

    I don't know how Kershaw gets by with this, because most state law is written something like "anything with assisted opening is illegal"...which btw, something as simple as a nail nick or a thumb stud could be construed as "assisted opening".

    the blade is well weighted and the movement is quite fast so it can be opened with no problem with a slight flick of the wrist with just a little bit of practice, there are no springs or levers just a well made knife, ive been carrying this knife for five or so years, and i love it , im thinking about buying another just in case i get careless and lose the one i got
