    Forget the drugs!

I'm ticked off at Bonds for picking on Bob Costas! [:D][:D]

yah but wouldn't it be nice that a sports figure who made a gazillion $$$ a year could actually be a good role model for younger fans

    What about the other greats?

    Cal Ripken
    Tony Gwynn
    Ryne Sandberg
    Ted Williams
    Billy Williams
    Robin Yount
    George Brett
    Ozzie Smith
    Nolan Ryan
    Lou Gehrig
    Hank Aaron

Bonds is paying for the record. At the pace he was hitting them 4-5 yrs ago when the whole thing started, he would currently be around 660 home runs.

Everyone hates A-Rod, but I think he'll break whatever record Bonds sets.

The players you listed are just the few bad eggs.

Seems most of the players these days have no problem hitting these "100++" MPH fastballs (most fastballs in the league top at around 95). If Bonds is too old and slow to catch up to the fastballs, then he needs to do one of two things...

    Retire or
Wait for a hanging breaking ball or a pitcher missing his mark (90% of the batters today have to be selective on their pitches, and they all are doing just fine).

That is NO reason for him to justify the use of Steroids and Hormone treatments.

He wants to have the record, and he's paying for it.

I admire those everyday players who do what it takes to win ballgames. Be it, playing 4 different positions, sac bunting, etc. Even if they don't bat .320 with 38 HR's and 120 knocked in. I admire them more than most of the sluggers out there today.

    Guys like

    Craig Biggio
    Mark Derosa
    Jason Kendall
    Jeff Kent
Mark Grudzelanik (one of the most consistant players in the game, and one of my favorite players)

    Along with sluggers like...

    Ryan Howard
    Albert Pujols
    Jim Edmonds
    Derrek Lee
    Jeff Bagwell
    Ken Griffey
    Magglio Ordonez
    Miguel Cabrera
    Andrew Jones

These guys all go play the game to win ballgames, not to make themselves look good. They have no problem putting up awesome numbers, which, in turn gives them the attention they deserve.

The only respect I have for Bonds is from when he played the game like everyone else. After 2002, I couldn't care less.

He's the last person on Earth I'd like to see break the record. If he does it, oh well. There's still the Asterisk.
