how does it compare to the 22 mag. would it make a good coyote gun or not. what kind of range are they good out to for varmint and predators like coyote. hows ammo prices. over all is it a good round. i want to get a new coyote gun and i'm really thinking about the 17 hmr.

Just got in from the range and had a good time with the new 17cal. [8D]great litte shooter, [:(!] the wind was blowing so the 150yard shots wheren't that great[:0] but at 50 yards I was putting the hole where I wanted them.[:D]

Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

I've never had any experience with one. I own a 22 Mag and am satisfied with it, so I dont have a need for one. Ammo for a 17hmr is pretty high. About $9.50 is the absolute cheapest you can find for 50 rounds. That's one reason I don't want one.

It does not compare to the 22 mag. The 17hmr is head and shoulders above the 22 mag. Don

Used with proper ammunition, the .17 HMR has an advantage in velocity, trajectory, and accuracy. The .22 WMR has an advantage in energy, bullet frontal area, sectional density, and consequently killing power.

The 22mag is a little more powerful but the 17hmr makes up for it in accuracy. I own both and the 22mag. lives in my truck. I try to keep coyote shots in the 75 - 80 yard range, with good results, most 30 yards and under dont take another step. My 17 is mostly for paper and showing off.

Just my preference for yote's is my 22-250 (Just because in my area a 100 yard shot is not often, they run![;)])

But for Varmints smaller. 17HMR all the way. If you are serious about getting a .17 check out this hot rod-

I can get 5rd groups out of my Marlin 917VR @ 100yds you can cover with a nickel. Possibily smaller. Try that with a run of the mill 22mag.

22 mag gets good power on target to about 100yds. Beyond that the 17 is the better round.

    17hmr is a Varmint's worst nightmare.
