microstamping
Did anyone hear whether this passed or not in the last election?

Has anyone heard of this? It's a liberal idea "if passed"that all guns made after 2009 will implament a system that "microstamps" a serial number on all casings fired through the gun. 0 -

This is so stupid it isn't even funny0 -
A very ill-thought-out plan. 5 seconds with a Dremel would render the "microstamp" useless. Or you could just pick up someone else's fired casings and leave them at the crime scene. 0 -

AND Your right!
In Calif it's on the firing pin & ammo, Not sure if it has been implemented yet or not, but that is/was the plan with law makers if I recall.0 -
I wonder when the criminals would thing it could be fun to bring several pounds of casings from a gunclub - and spread them all over the crimescene.
Or it would just make certain people pick up the casings - and leave them with no evidence at all.0 -
Think thats why they wish to put a stamp on bullets as well.

the idiots that think this sheet up have no ideal a revolver doesn't leave casings, and have no ideal what a brass catcher is for0 -
I think I'll buy stocks in those harpoon-guns for swimming with sharks then. 0 -

Geeeee's; I guess my 7 1/2 bird shot will have it on all of them too. I also guess cast lead bullets [copper also] in my .45 long colt will be intact so they can read them. **** Sarcasim towards CA law makers ****
If any criminal and or murderer wants to avoid the cops for as long as possible, they can just pick up the casings and use those frangible bullets so the 'twist' can not be fingerprinted.
Barrels [espically in 1911's] can easily be changed out to avoid the feds.
What a load of CRAP. [:(!]0 -

Good point about the bird shot! How they going to address that one!0 -
Wow, what a valuable idea they've come up with. So they really could have linked the casings back to the dead shooter in this massacre? Wow, what a valuable tool to prevent crime. [:o)]
Why would anybody come up with this crap?0 -
Be interested to see what happens when no CA PD can buy a gun! 0 -

First the lead - it's almost certainly been hardened or treated. Electronmicroscope and other testing can reveal and compare testsamples on molecular levels.
They can also compare powderresidue - no two powderbatches are so much alike, that you can't tell the difference with advanced testing.
They might find the shot-cup or parts of the plastic casing.
Lead-sample and powderresidue, shotcup and shellcasingsamples does however need a comparison - so they need to find shells at your house to run comparison.
But with analysis today - that's not even breaking sweat.
Also if you cast bullets yourself - they just need a sample from .. whatever. Spent leadbullets in your testarea, melting pot, lead-barrs, casting tools, sizingtools...0 -
Every barrel leaves its distinct signature on the bullet as it is fired. 0 -
I see the return of the cap-and-ball revolver in gun related crimes. 0 -

J.W.Booth took out one of our presidents with a single shot cap n ball pistol.0 -
Another stupid idea by the ignorant liberals that will "shutup" all lefty libs looking for the "answer".
How about the Government recognize us a everyday heros? Willing to carry a gun and put forth the effort to stop an attacker should we ever witness or be subjected to an attack. I take pride in knowing that I carry a gun 95% of the time and could and would be able to stop a would be attacker/robber/rapist etc from carrying out their crime. I feel that I'm competent enough to protect myself, my family, and those strangers around me from a criminal. And I ask nothing from the Government except to allow us the right to do so.0
