Best way to ship these wheels and tires?

I sold the wheels and tires, but I'm not sure of the most cost effecient way of packing them for shipment. I'm thinking of packing them the following way....

Pair them up, each rim facing the same way, with a ring of cardboard where the rims meet, then strapping them together with ties through the lugs. A circle of cardboard on each end the same diameter as the tires, then wrapping the circumference in packing paper. While taping the crap out of it. Now I need to know if I can find some packing paper, is it fairly expensive?

Do you think this will provide adequate protection during shipment?

    I would let the air out of them and stick an address label on each one and ship four seperate units.

    first how far are u shipping them?
    it would be easier to wrap each tire, dont take it off
    the wheel, find some cardboard, cut it the same size as
    the tire, use clear packing tape.
    I know my brother had ordered so tires thru a mail order
    4 x 4, they all arrived ready to put on. they came by fedex.

    of course then you're screwed trying to get your car back hehe.

    Just out of curiosity, Check with ABF Freight systems and see what they would charge if you straped all 4 to a pallet and shipped that way.

    I used to get some good deals from them on shipping, but I did know some terminal managers too as My dad worked for them for a number of years before he retired.

    Or palletize them so they will fit on a greyhound bus. You drop off and load it, buyer meets bus and takes off.

    I sold some wheels and tires a while back. I placed them individually in heavy duty garbage bags sandwiched between two sheets of heavy cardboard in which the cardboard dimensions match the circumference of the wheel. I then bent the corners of the cardboard over the edges of the tires and wrapped with duct tape going around the circumference and then wrapping the opposite direction tyeing the sides together. I then wrote the address directly onto the cardboard. The wheels arrived in perfect condition and must of been a bear to unwrap since I used almost a complete roll of duct tape (better safe then sorry).

    Ok, gives me some ideas. I'm sure my idea will be ok, I don't plan on separating them. Just sending two packages, 1 pair to each package.

    go to the hardware store, get 3 long metal rods threaded on both ends, 6 washers, 6 nuts to go on the threads, and run them through 3 of the lug holes when the tires are stacked together and screw them all together real good.

    if they're stuck together good enough you don't need a crate, ship them like that. if you have small parts like hubcaps, dust covers, chrome lug nuts or whatever, ship them seperately in a box.

    Send them ups each tire seperatly just take um off the car put the label on them and off they go

    I second the suggestion to check with Greyhound or Trailways. I've gotten auto parts that way. Sure hope you added shipping costs to the sale price.

    It has been a loooooooong time since I worked for the USPS. I think I remember seeing tires shipped with only address labels tied to them. That dosn't mean it can still be done but it is worth asking the USPS.

    The tires I ordered for the wheels that I sent were mail order. Through Tirerack.com. They ship UPS. They strapped a pair of tires together, slapped a sticker on them and off they went apparently.
