Question on gun lubrication?
At the same gun shop where I was when I spotted that insanely cheap Armscor .38 I got to jawing with another customer and about guns and shooting and what not and the gun lubrication topic came up.I use Either Hoppes 9 or Break Free CLP to clean my guns and then I use alittle Remington Rem-oil to lubricate certain parts.According to the person I was speaking with there is nothing better to lube your gun with than 3 in 1 oil.I had never heard that and have always used probucts directly labeled for lubricating firearms.Have any of you ever used 3 in 1 oil to lube your guns and does it really work as good as this person told me?If I picked up on a new tip great but I would like to know if I was fed alittle bit of that classic bs too.

I have heard that Slick-50 works very well for articulating parts because it's a "pressure-activated" lubricant that's sticky under normal conditions but forms an excellent lubricant under the friction caused by sliding metal parts. My buddy gave me a small glob from his tub at home and it works wonders in trigger groups and sliding rails. Too bad I can't find it anywhere in stores.
I also hear that auto-transmission fluid works well because it's designed for high stress and high heat lubrication. I own a bottle of 3-in-1 oil but haven't tried it on a gun because I don't know about it's smoke-point.0 -
That is a good point Cransona but they sell Slick 50 in Wal Mart. 0 -
I need to look harder, I guess! lol 0 -

Rem Oil is the best thing I've found in my searching. It's a thin oil with very good lubricating properties. It's the oil of choice in my pistol league. I personally wouldn't use anything else for a lubricant. 0 -
I've used 3-in-1 oil on my guns for 40 years.
No rust, no malfunctions, no problems.
See no reason to try anything else.
Saves $$, too.0 -
Glocks used to come with a copper-graphite anti seize lube on 'em from the factory - good stuff. I found a 1lb can of "nuke plant grade" (impurities listed and in 0.000x% increments) Felpro copper graphite anti-seize and it is still about half full after 20 years of use and giving away 10cc syringes to friends, etc. Good stuff. Use a general metal cleaner/degreaser on parts, and a good bore cleaner in the barrel (Hoppes' at the moment). 0 -

Depends on the firearm- and WHAT PART on the arm. some like a light oil, some points need GREASE. LSA, CLP, Rem-oil, fine. how about the rails on a 1911? most folks really do ovedo it, tho. 0 -
I have a very bad habit of over lubricating a gun.I am working on it but I leave the whole gun greasy some times. It much easier to oil revolvers than it is a Semi-Auto for me because thats what I am more used to so when I oil my pistol it gets a bath because there is so much more you have to oil I just ended oiling everything to much and spend the next 2 hours wiping it off as it leaks out. 0 -
I use Hoppe's #9 and Remoil and have for years and will continue to do so. Never had a problem with my system and see no reason to change. 0 -
I use Lucas Gun Oil, (http://www.lucasoil.com/products/display_products.sd?iid=27&catid=2&loc=show)
The only problem is that I can only find it on the website.0 -
I use Gunslick on slides and moving parts. Its a graphite/anitsieze compound, works very good. Also i use the Lucas gun oil, it;s red and sold at Autozone. It is very slick when applied and slightly wiped off. It works very well in my muzzleloader. 0 -
