coyote hunters ??

now that the fury over Dumbo's blog calling half of us terrorist is over I have another question about his blog,,He started it by saying they "HE AND A REMINGTON REP" had been yote hunting with their new .17 spitfire,,,is a .17 big enough to yote hunt with,,to me it would seem to just bleed them out at best unless you could pull a head shot.I am a believer in using enough gun,,I may even at times use too much gun but I would rather use too much than not enough and cause an animal to suffer..I have never hunted coyotes but I just think a .17 is too small,,how hard are they to drop ??

  It would seem too small too me too, but I think Remington has a rifle chambered in .17 Remington, I guess they're answer to the 17 craze. Regardless of how fast you can push a 17 caliber, I just dont think the bullets have the weight on them to drop a coyote quickly. However, I shoot my coyotes with a .22-250, so I wouldn't know.

  I don't know what the spitfire is, but I can tell you the old .17 Rem is pretty fair coyote fodder and a excellent fox and bobcat round, Ive killed coyotes out to 275 yds with mine and it's always a one hole pelt, unlike most of them with my 22-250

  The 17 cals especially the 17rem and Mach IV are explosive rounds. They may not carry much weight, but they explode.
  
  I use the 17HMR, head shots only. Of course now that I have the 243, the HMR can stay in the safe until squirrel season.
