WHY IS IT SO WARM? I always thought that global warming was bs but now i am starting to get a bit concerned, Its January here in NY and its almost 70 degrees......Can someone give me some scientific insight into Mother natures actions the past three months? I remember deer hunting with my dad when i was a kid and It was always cold starting mid november.......

I live in NY. This year and last year were warmer than normal. However, the three previous years were colder then normal. The five year average is "normal to colder-than-normal". You can't look at a single winter season and suddenly claim "Global Warmnig". It's not scientific. The Global Warming crowd will do anything to get you on their bandwagon.0 -
I just shake my head when someone suggests 'global warming'. Man has only been keeping weather records for about 150 years. Man has been here for less than a blink of the eye in the big picture. The mini-ice age of the middle ages was caused by the suns output dipping by less than 1%. A few million years ago the earth was a lot warmer probably due to volcanic activity/sun heat output. One volcano can put more 'greenhouse gas' in the atmosphere than all of mankind. To suggest that mankind is changing the global weather patterns is laughable. I can remember the experts saying that Lake Erie was a dead body of water that wouldn't support fishlife for 200 years if they stopped poluting it. Considering that the AVERAGE temp worldwide has gone up a whopping 0.6degF over the last 100 years, and that the same "scientists" that are screaming global warming today were screaming that we were entering a ice age due to global cooling less than 30 years ago.........0 -
Interesting subject this global warming...
For the alarmists I can only share that I agree that man contributes to atmospheric changes. This has been true since man first passed gas. Maybe more true since man lit his first fire. Neither would I argue that man has the capacity to change his environment. Pave a city or eliminate a forest and the environment will change.
BUT... I disagree that man plays a major part in overall global warming or cooling. After all, are we forgetting that earth temps have been on an upward trend for the last 10,000 years since the last ice age? Have we forgotten that warming opened the window for the occupation of Greenland by the Vikings? Have we overlooked that a sudden cooling forced them out and continued until sometime in the 20th century? Are there any of us conceited enough to believe that man was responsible for this mini ice age?
When I was a youngster in the 60's I discovered a diary written on a barn wall just after the Civil War. This in northern New York. I expect that the writer was a young man at the time, probably still in school. He related a winter season that never was. Grass still green at Christmas, cattle still pastured in January, and no ice to be harvested. No ice was a major concern for him as they needed it for summer! Too many railroads and steam engines with all that coal smoke? I doubt it.
Weather changes. Weather patterns change. Man is stupid and short-sighted. We strip land that we shouldn't. We farm land that probably should best be left alone. We pave open areas. We certainly change the face of this earth.
As to overall weather... We contribute, but I doubt we do much more than that. One good shot of small volcano does more than anyone can imagine. And we're finding under-sea volcanoes to be much more active than previously believed.
So, I guess I'll just sit back and watch, but I'm not buying into too many theories. Global change is normal and expected. Lack of change would be more worrisome.0 -

Like everything else in nature weather has its cycles. Look back at history and see when it was warm to the north and snowy blizzards in the south previously. If that ain't it its Bushes fault. 42 degrees and raining here in northern Maine today. 0 -

could be that the poles are switching but that could be far fetched. If we get different weather in july then we should worry. One thing that should be noted is that before an ice age the earth wars up and causes a lot of plant growth then It goes cold. 0 -

This time of the year,here in Central Texas,I keep three changes of clothes in the truck.
That's how many times the weather can change in a day.
