Does H&K suck?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
I was looking at the HK web site. I notice that alot of the products they sell, they don't sell to civilians. I know some guns are illegal to the masses, but what's the story behind the PSG or a semi-auto version of the full auto ones?
I was looking at the Colt web site and they don't even sell to the civilians.
I hate companies like this and I'll will praise the day they go under. That way more money can be spent at the civilian friendly companies that deserve our money.
Non-civilian friendly Companies like this wouldn't be were they are today if it wasn't for civilians buying there products in the first place.
How quickly they forget who their really customers are.
It's the civilians who brought their products in the past, who voted and fought for guns rights so they can even stay in business.

H&K is a german company so lots of their products are not available to the public. They are more interested in military or police contracts. Germany has some tough gun laws. 0 -

So what's keeping them from contracting a company here in the US and building the products here. Wouldn't this get them away from the Germany laws?
They are more interested in non-civilians sales or I would think they could find away.0 -
You are correct. I guess they think they don't need civilian sales as long as they are making so many weapons for the US military. Is it just me or are others uneasy about so many of out small arms being made by foreign companies?
M9 Beretta - Italy
MP5 H&K - Germany
M240B FN - Belgium
M249 FN - Belgium
There are others used in smaller numbers by our armed forces and law enforcement. We could use American made weapons if the government would loosen the restrictions and let real people design weapons. We are still using the M16 and variants which was the last rifle in our arsenal that was developed by an individual, Gene Stoner. Only large companies can afford to try to develop our guns now and we saw how well that turned out with the M60.0 -
Not sure but our import law is not that great for civilians here either. The last great HK's imported in a rifle version were variants of the PSG1 and G3 or HK 91 you no longer see them under a dollar amount of 1200. 0 -
The guns you mention Chris are great guns, at least IMO.
I just can't see a reason they don't offer the PSG. In the past I would have brought one, but now I think I'd get a Cobb.0 -
Been looking at a DSA made FAL recently. I had looked and drueled over HK's for a while but I am a poor college student and all guns I want are out of my reach price wise. Wish they could be made here with the same quality a bit cheaper but with guns sometimes quality is not cheap. 0 -
I have a DSA Fal. It's great gun. It's a bit big and bulky for me.
I don't shoot it much, 22's are more my thing right now.
I can hit pop cans with it out to 100-125 yards with open sites. It seem really accurate or at least it doesn't wonder much at 100 yards.0 -
I know a fellow who says you can never have to many 22's. Cheap to shoot atleast and to buy. 0 -

I guess H&K must be doing real well on the sales end, due to the Military and Law Enforcement sales. They make some really great weapons. They also have some very nice weapons for civilians.0 -
what is to many 22's ,never 0 -
PSG1's, HK91's, 93's, 94's and SP89's are all banned by name in one of the Bush-era gun bans...so, you'll never see a new, non-LEO/M model imported by HK again.
If they could, they'd probably still be selling them to us...so, blame the politicos that banned them, not the company.0 -
blame politicians, not HK. They would gladly sell us all we could buy if they were ALLOWED to. Some say there are better battle rifles,..I disagree. The U.S. Govt has a special forces budget second to none,..and they use A LOT of HK products. They are very dependable and accurate for a semi-auto ball ammo launching platform.
Buy what you can now,..they are appreciating every day.0 -
I know the importation laws of assault rifles never did go away (the one Reagan done did way back when) so that is why one doesn't see "New" PSG-1's coming a shore. I also recall these weren't knocked out like the HK-91 and they weren't cheap to begin with. Since they can't export it to the US and there is a market other places they just skip us. Kind a like gun makers in the US not selling their wares in California[:D].
Springfield did knock out the SAR-8 then the "Thumb Jobbies" of the HK-91 knock off (I'd get these before Cetme).
Personally I think HK makes enough selling their G-3s in Africa for their population control.0 -
Cutiegirl
Here is a quick and I will even give it to you for free lesson on contracting sales to the Government.
#1. You make a product, Say for example a Camo'ed Bic lighter.
#2. The Government wants to buy your camo'ed Bic lighters for military use.
#3. You price them to the government $10.00 each.
You get a contract to sell 1 million Camo'ed Bic lighters to the Military.
You just made yourself $10 mill.
#4. You can not sale say Pink Bic lighters to the public for $1.00 each. Due to the fact that you are charging the Government $10.00 for basically the same product with just a $.02 part differences.
Now the question is.
Why would you want to sale an AR15 to the public for $500.00 each when the government is willing to pay you $2500.00 for the same rifle with the only difference being a $2.00 part that allows it to shoot in full auto and a ten cent M16A2 stamped on the side of it?0 -

FN has a factory in South Carolina that makes the firearms for sale to the US gubmint.0 -

Not only does FN make our military's light machine guns here, but Beretta has alway produced the M9 in Maryland. HK sells few guns to our military compared to other agency sales.
Cutiegirlracing,
You make no sense. There are many, many products made for the military that you can't buy. HK makes most of their products available, including the new 416 rifle soon. Why be pissed at them in particular for something ALL military suppliers are guilty of? Makes no sense.0 -
Many of H&K's products are made especially for the US market as almost no other country will allow their civilians to be armed.
USP, does it not stand for United States Pistol!!???
Seriously, did I just assume that or is it something else???
I thought the PSG-1 was imported until Billy-C banned it.
As for not buying them to show them, well, they make such a great product most will simply buy it anyway.
IMO

Close but not quite:
USP = Universal Self loading Pistol
UMP = Universal Machine Pistol
USC = Universal Self loading Carbine
There is a list of what all the numbers mean too like
9 = rifle
5 = carbine I believe
1 =.308
3 = .223
and many others.
The 1989 import ban happened prior to Clinton, I will let you figure that one out. Clinton was in for the 1994 AWB dealing with domestic firearms.0 -
Here is a old brand new unfired HK SR9T.( Target ) PSG-1 Trigger group. MSG adjustable stock. Imported 225 of them.

Here's the HK web site.

You can buy any pistol they make for LE or Military, but they make 24 different rilfes for LE and Military and only 2 for the public.
None of those are the 416.
If all military suppliers are guilty of this. What about Barrett?
Barrett banned their guns, parts and service from California. Because California banned the 50 bmg.
Barrett took it one step further and offered civilians the 416 Barrett for their 50 bmg's.
Not all LE and Military contractors are equal some actually care about the 2nd amendment.0 -

You are missing the point,...and in no way am I being instigational,......the FOREIGN companies suffered under past legislation, thus taxes and import fees as well as firearms import laws have made anything NOT produced in this country, a collectable item. They can't be imported,...no matter how many they can make,..although the LEA's can get them since they are in law enforcement. The wording states that LEA's can have them,..but average Joe, can NOT. HK corporate, at least if I ran it, would LOVE to sell as many firearms as I could produce. Business is business, and laws is laws. HK can not sell you what you want,..even though they would love to.[V]0 -
I understand the HK think, JustC.
I was simply stating to Ripley. Not all military contractors are the same. That there are companies out there that will do more for their civilian customers and not just worry only about LE and Military contracts. It's these companies that really deserve our business.
HK doesn't make most of their products available to the public. It maybe due to laws, but I feel they do care more about their LE and Military contracts vs the general public.
And Colt has no excuse, IMO.0 -
H&K is probably one of the most hostile companies as far as offering products to the civilian market. Even though they have an American manufacturing presence, they refuse to offer a true-blue G36 to us proles. And I'm not sure if they've changed course on this, but they refused to sell their 416 gas-piston AR system to the public.
So we're stuck with single-stack magazines for the SL8 (the civvie version of the G36) which often times results in part of the plastic magazine well cracking...
Personally I don't buy H&K anymore. If they think so little of me that they will not trust me with fully legal semiautomatic firearms, they can rot in Hell before they get one dime out of me. I'll spend my money where it's appreciated.0 -
Their O/U shotguns are one of the best I have ever shot. Workmanship and the way they function are superb. Factory cast off stock. Pic is of a 12 gauge.. I also have its brother a 20 gauge.

The 416 is another good example of LE and Military only rifle, HK doesn't want to let us have.
This is where companies like Bushmaster shine. They came out with one, a gas piston AR, and offered it to the civilian market.0 -

That is an awesome gun. I would love to have one. Someday maybe I can find one at a decent price.
All I have is a USP. It's a great little gun. The clips suck on it, but the rest of the gun is good.
I would buy a used HK. I don't think I buy new.0 -
