Mega-Fires: They're forest fires ten times bigger than the blazes we're used to seeing. To find out why these infernos are happening, Correspondent Scott Pelley went out on the fire line to witness the burning of the American West. What he found were overmatched firefighters and evidence that a big reason for the fires is global warming.

    The reason for mega fires is endless letigious retardation by Sierra Club and others acting "on behalf of the forest" which just can't STAND anyone making money off of forest product.

    So they sue sue sue and sue, block and impede, smart forest management and clearance of underfuels and immature trees which cause these huge conflagrations.

    The Rodeo-Chedeski fire, a huge mega fire in 2002, was 2 separate fires BOTH STARTED ON INDIAN RESERVATION.

    Why didn't the USFS fight the fires before they got big, i.e. when they were still on the REZ? Simple.

    Indians do not pay the bills for the water/retardant drops, which average about 5K ea. So, the opportunity was lost to fight them when they were small. The typical USFS bureacratic cronyism kept the russians from bringing their MONSTER tanker over. They offered to come help fight the R-C fire, FOR COSTS...the USFS cited some BS about "erosion" to protect their buddies who run the water bombers.

    It's sick, sad and pathetic.

    If a fella had access to the info. I bet you'd find that where these "MEGA-FIRES" are taking place,are places that have been kept from burning NATURALLY, for the past 75-100 YEARS! Hence, their is enough fuel on the ground to actually BURN-UP trees that need fire to reproduce!

    There have always been fires. The Native Americans used to set controlled burns to promote growth. The difference between now and then is that we now have cities, homes, ect.
