Girl's Feet Cut Off on Six Flags Ride


(AP/WLKY) A girl's feet were cut off Thursday at Six Flags' Kentucky Kingdom, police confirmed to Louisville, Ky., TV station WLKY.

Police said they got the call around 5 p.m. Thursday. Both of the girls feet were detached at the ankle.

According to MetroSafe dispatch supervisors, the girl was riding the Superman Tower of Power, which is 177 feet tall and drops riders at 54 mph. According to Kentucky Kingdom, the girl was injured when the ride malfunctioned.

    I just woke up and turned on the T.V. Local news said that they reattached her feet. The only good thing about this tragedy is that it happened here in Louisville. A hospital here was one of the first ones to do the hand transplants and are very good at this kind of thing.

    I hope the surgery went well.
    What a tragedy to happen to a young girl.

    One good thing: Medical costs to the girl and her family = 0.

    I wonder how that will hurt business? I have thought about going there while driving through Louisville- you can see it right off of I-65. I guess I won't be taking my kids there.

    I talked to the Eureka Fired Department in Missouri about the St. Louis area's Six Flags. They said you wouldn't believe the number of accident that come out of that place. Six Flags would go out of their way to be friends with the fire department.

    When my 20 year old grandson was 6 I felt he was to small [even though he was allowed to go on a ride himself], well lo and behold I went and was sick for 4 or 5 hours afterwords, I don't trust a lot of those rides, call me a chicken if you want, I just don't feel safe.

    What I hear: The unit/ride is cable hoisted, the cables parted, the ride fell some, then the falling cables fouled on her feet, and then yanked them off. Might be an issue that like elevators, the seating area fell some and then braked to a safety stop. The falling cables and machinery, if there was any, went all the way down. Since I worked some 26 years on Cranes/Elevators, I'll bet this was a limit switch and or poor cable inspection problem.

    Good to hear that her parts are re-attached, but she will be hurtin/damaged for life, even if they are successful. Heart goes out to her.

    rideaccidents.com has a lost of various rides that malfunctioned like the one in Arkansas that stopped upside down for a half hour with riders in it.

    Ouch this one is by my home I used to go there and on my birthday as well.

    (Saturday, May 26, 2007) - At Cedar Point Park in Sandusky, Ohio, two roller coaster trains were involved in a minor collision on the park's Magnum XL-200 roller coaster. The accident happened when one train failed to stop completely at a braking area toward the end of its run, and continued to roll forward about 10 mph when it collided with a train that had already stopped. Fifty-nine people were on board the trains at the time of the accident. Two riders were treated for minor injuries at the park's first aid center, and another was treated at a hospital for asthma problems and released. The trains were slightly damaged in the accident.

    The ride has been shut down.

    If that were true, ALL amusement parks would be owned by people who had been injured. That's what i was asking about in my earlier post.

    I wish a lawyer would explain how amusement park operators remain in operation. Don't get me wrong, i have nothing against amusement parks. Just curious.





    There was sarcasm in my voice when I said that. Of course, there will be a lawsuit. Heck, the amusement company's attorneys are already working on figuring out a settlement, right now, guaranteed. Also, they are looking for ways to show it was the girls fault because of her negligence.
