Thrust to horsepower...

Does anyone know if there is a way to convert pounds of thrust to horsepower in order to compare jet aircraft turbine engines to reciprocating engines ??

Also, what is the relationship of shaft horsepower (as turboprops are rated) to horsepower ??

  33,000 pound feet per minute=one HP. Weight of jet vehicle*fpm (straight up)/33,000=net HP. Does not take into account losses.

  Power is force times velocity. One horsepower is 550 foot-pounds per second.
  
  So at 550 feet per second (375mph), each pound of thrust is one horsepower. At 825 feet per second (560mph), each pound of thrust is 1.5 horsepower.

  Also-jet Turbine engines can have thrust or shaft horsepower.
  Helicopters and turboprop airplanes run off jets which turn a shaft thus the shaft horsepower.

  Brake horsepower is the hp measured at the crankshaft. Shaft horsepower is the hp measured at the prop which is usually less than brake hp due to friction.
