America is facing a nuclear attack from al-Qaida terrorists living in the U.S. or crossing our all but unguarded borders, warns Dr. Paul Williams in his chilling new book "The Day of Islam: The Annihilation of America and the Western World."
Remarkably, just hours after NewsMax.com conducted an exclusive interview with the author, U.S. authorities announced the arrest of three terrorists who planned an attack on New York City's JFK airport - which read as if details surrounding the plot had been taken directly from the pages of his book.
Williams, a former FBI consultant and an expert on the subjects of al-Qaida and Osama bin Laden, also is the author of "Osama's Revenge," "The Next 9/11," and "The al-Qaida Connection." He has long maintained that the menace posed by this sinister group of murderous terrorists is both real and widespread. In his interview with NewsMax, Williams discussed al-Qaida's successful efforts to obtain nuclear weapons for use against the United States.
NewsMax: Does al-Qaida have nuclear weapons?
Williams: They definitely have nukes. There's no doubt about it. There's positive proof. As I wrote in my book, in the first three months of Operation Enduring Freedom - the Gulf War - our troops found in a cave outside of Khandahar in Afghanistan a canister filled with Uranium 238 [the basic ingredient for a nuclear bomb] and in Turnak Farms [where at one time 1,800 members of al-Qaida lived and worked] they found jars and jars and jars of yellow cake [pure uranium, dried].
The most alarming thing of all involved a Pakistani operative who was driving over the Allenby Bridge between Jordan and Israel in a shabby Volkswagen mini-bus. The Israelis stopped him and in the back of the Volkswagen was a plutonium implosion device, the most sophisticated of all nuclear weapons. According to the Mossad people I spoke to, it was in excess of 10 kilotons.
It could have taken out all of Israel in the blink of an eye. If one of these babies went off with 10 kilotons, first of all you'd have the conventional explosion, which if it occurred at the site of 9/11, would take out all of lower Manhattan.
From that would come a fireball that would be about 750 feet in diameter - the core would reach a temperature of 10 million degrees Celsius, which means in the blink of an eye everything would disintegrate. After that would come juggernaut blasts ripping through the city with winds in excess of 640 miles per hour, and after that would come the mushroom cloud and the radioactive fallout that would spew into the five boroughs of New York, into Connecticut and New Jersey. The end result is that millions would be dead.
NewsMax: What is the possibility that there is a store of nukes here in the United States?
Williams: There's no doubt about that. Before 9/11 a guy by the name of Sheik Kabbani, the president of the Supreme Islamic Council of North America, appeared before the Senate and the House and said that over 48 nukes were here. There was also a Waziristan summit meeting in Pakistan in April 2004. Attending it were the leading planners of the next 9/11. Included was one Sharif al Masry, and Adnan el-Shukrijumah, the next Mohammad Atta, and a terrorist from Brooklyn.
They all confirmed that nuclear weapons had been developed by al-Qaida with the help of scientists and technicians from the A.Q. Khan Research laboratories. The most chilling thing, they said was that all of the weapons had been forward deployed to Mexico and transported over the border into the U.S.
This story was reported in a little tiny paragraph in Time magazine. It was buried in there. The fact that nuclear weapons had been developed [by al-Qaida], and the researchers at the A.Q. Khan facility had confirmed that, and transported to Mexico and then into the United States - you couldn't get a bigger story than that.
NewsMax: Doesn't this indicate the seriousness of the problem with our borders?
Williams: It's madness. The borders are not just open. People say the "porousness" of our borders but that's not accurate - our borders are wide open.

Paul Williams is trying to sell a book based on hype. If terrorists had nukes here they would already have used them. Building a functioning nuclear bomb takes enourmous skill and resources. Most of the world's governments cannot do it so it is highly unlikely that a bunch of guys living in caves constantly running for their lives would be able to accomplish the task.

With the advent of the internet and communication that we have now around the world, I think it is quite likely it could happen..Now will I hide in a hole the rest of my life? Heck no...but it's a problem...a big problem for the U.S. to deal with and I don't know what the answer is.0 -
I can't speculate on what they may or may not have.
But one thing's for sure. There is no telling what the right person could buy with the right amount of money, in the right country at the right time.
The Russians are guarding a massive stock pile. Who are 'they' that are watching over everything? Would 'they' put American lives above a million bucks in their pocket? I sure as hell don't want to find out.

The fact is Admin hit the nail on the head: if nukes were so damned easy to manufacture and/or procure, they would have been used by now. Iran would be a nuclear power by now. Hell, anyone with a million bucks would be a nuclear power by now!
Truth: it's not that easy. Nuclear weapons, even the crudest of devices, requires a great deal of scientific know-how, engineering skill and facilities, and a robust infrastructure to construct, maintain, and employ.
As is, Smith and Wesson faces significant challenges machining titanium and scandium for their guns... what makes you think some screwhead operating out of a hole in the ground with no running water and no reliable source of electricity will be able to machine uranium? It's not as if you just grab yourself a handful of "yellow cake", jam it into a can of black powder and voila! You're a nuclear power!
Paul Williams suffers from what academians call "publish or perish." If his book does not make a splash, he gets no more money. it's true, the technical difficulties of developing a working N or A bomb are enormous, and beyond the reach of cave dwellers no matter how well funded or staffed, as it is beyond the reach of most governments.
it's difficult because of the level of precision required to make it happen. the concept is easy, but try to get it to work and it won't. the secrets of how to overcome the stumbling blocks are obviously withheld by those who know them, therefore other govt's are on their own, and as you can plainly see it's no easy task.
the terrorists are much more likely to be interested in pursuing conventional dirty bombs than paying to get their hands on a proper nuclear weapon.
the stories you hear about nuclear materials that are left unguarded -uranium left in an unlocked, unguarded storage locker in russia, for example- are true. some most likely has been sold and made their way into the hands of terrorists, whatever the quality.
most of what that author had to say is probably just hype. how is he supposed to know about some waziri elders who had a meeting and what they said? they don't have anything to do with this 'jihad' anyways. it's a joke.
also, take into account the fact that these are terrorists. they want us to be afraid of them or else they would be ineffectual. wouldn't it serve their purpose to plant some materials where they know we would find them? the U238 and U-cake may have been a ruse. we shouldn't assume anything.

history has proven a million times that every combatant underestimates their opponent at some time. how is it that american intelligence is so certain that al-qeada doesnt have nukes when american intelligence was so correct about 9-11 or WMD in iraq, or the collapse of the soviet union, or iraqi nuclear reactors in the 80's. the fact is the american intelliegence community has NO CLUE about al-qeada nukes. read "center of the storm" by george tenet and you will hear some very disturing stuff about CIA investigstions about old soviet material and soviet links to al-qeada.

Let's take a look at Mr. Paul William's evidence, shall we?
In an interview he states, " I have a unique background. I hold a Ph.D. in philosophy from Drew University and I am a seasoned and award-winning journalist."
Actually, there's a few Drew University PhD's who are award winning journalists.
"I came upon the story of bin Laden's acquisition of tactical nuclear weapons while working as the editor/publisher of THE METRO."
Okay, so he wasn't even looking for the nukes. Maybe that's not a bad thing, maybe it means he's objective. Or maybe it means he's just a total whack job.
"I learned that they came to the U.S. after Makhmud and his associates sold tactical nukes and nuclear materials to Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri. I began to search for evidence of this sale and came upon stories in The Jerusalem Report and The London Times and Arab stories in Muslim magazine, Al-Watan al-Arabi , and al-Majallah . This led me to other sources and reports of further sales of nukes from the former Soviet Union to al Qaeda not only by the Chechens but also the Russian Mafiya and black-marker arms-dealers, including Semion Mogilevic from the Ukraine . Such information can be obtained by any journalist with a telephone, a computer, and a library card."
So what he's saying is that a friend of a friend of a friend heard a story told by one of his cousin's best friends from grade school. Well hell's bells! That's good enough for me! Also note that NONE of these stories can be confirmed by any sources that don't cite William's book as a source.
"Dr. Mahmood and Dr. Majeed, two of the leading officials at the Khan facility, confessed to CIA and ISI interrogators that they participated in al Qaeda's nuclear projects. The fact that the Chechens possessed the nukes should be no surprise to any reporter or investigator. In 1995, the Chechens under Commander Shamail Basayev planted a radiological bomb in Izmailovsky Park near Moscow . The bomb was made of cesium-137, and, if detonated, would have killed thousands of Russians. This incident represented the first case of a nuke to be deployed as a weapon of terror. Later that same year, Dzokhar Dudayev, the leader of the Chechen Mafiya, offered to sell his collection of nuclear weapons to the United States in exchange for U. S. recognition of Chechnya 's independence. The Clinton Administration declined and so the weapons were sold to al Qaeda."
Note how cleverly he calls a radiological bomb a "nuke." Hate to tell the Ph.D., but, um, they aren't exactly the same thing.
The rest of the article goes on to say how there is irrefutable proof that al Qada is going to nuke us, but not a single claim can be verified by any source other than Williams himself.
All in all, it's a load of crap.

Well if Sadam didn't have WMD how could Al-Qaida. Have we ever caught Al-Qaida with nukes? No, so that means they don't have them. But if they do we will be the first to know and I'm sure Iran wouldn't mind giving them some nukes. That way Iran can claim innocence so we don't blow them back to the stone age. 0 -

As for everything else, let us just say that the intelligence community knew that claims of Iraqi WMDs were bogus, but that a certain war president seemed hellbent on ignoring said data.

Soviet missing material: The United States is currently missing over 30 M1 MBTs, 50 aircraft of various sizes, anthrax specimens, and other assorted gear amounting to over $1 trillion - does it mean someone out there is a trillionaire? To put it in perspective, the Soviet Union fell over a decade ago.
9-11 happened close to six years ago.
The Oklahoma City bombing took about a year to plot and carry out.
According to intelligence sources, it took less than two years to plot 9-11 and less than six months to get it going.
If the two deadliest terrorist attacks in U.S. history took, on average, a year to plot and execute, then it would make sense, given the ease with which you propose nukes are obtained or constructed, for one to have gone off already.
It's all too apparent that our border security is a joke, so it's not the Department of Homeland Security keeping us safe.
The men detained in the plot to attack Fort Dix were planning on using small arms.
And to date no one tried for terrorism has been accused or found to have been in possession of any stripe of WMD.
So using logic and common sense plus what is known about nuclear weapons design, we can say with some measure of confidence that reports of Al Qaeda's nuclear status are nothing but overblown.0 -

If they had them they would use them, to risky to hold on to a nuke.
Again for the folks who claim terrorists have nukes in the US .... they would use them now .... cant risk holding them. I would bet if a nuke goes off on our homeland it will be one we made.0 -

Doing and/or accomplishing anything in this imperfect world can be accomplished with enough knowledge and enough money.
They already caught one (radical muslim) physicist/engineer from the Pakistani Nuke Team giving away ALL the info you'd need to build a nuke. And IIRC they caught him enroute to personally instruct and assist radical muslims in building a nuke.
Osama is/was one of the richest men in the world, and Al-Quaida is perhaps the richest terrorist group. Are they rich enough to be able to buy or build a nuke . . . probably.
IMO if they had a nuke or even a dirty bomb they would have used it by now. But I am sure they are doing everything they can to buy or build one.0
