A Good Put Away Gun?
I was thinking of buying a pistol and just putting it away in a box not firing it.Just keeping it and was trying to think of what would be the best pistol to put away and maybe pass on one day.Something timeless and reliable, rare to ever need work,a good caliber, basically a well made reliable combat type pistol that is in brand new condition if I should ever fall back on it or pass it down to someone.I was thinking a Military Spec 1911 or maybe a nice 4" .357 Revolver but thats my thoughts so far.Has anyone else thought to do this and what else would be a good choice for a gun you dont shoot just a good gun to have in new condition if you need an extra or to pass down?

S&W 4" .357 model 19 or possibly a model 66 if you prefer stainless. Or a S&W 4" 7shot 686. Or most any Kimber 1911. 0 -
If you can find a S&W Model 64, that would be great. That is a 22LR kit gun. Fun to shoot, and is better than a knife for most home/self defense. Not sure what the blued model designation number is, but they are nice too. Just MHO, and ammo for the 22 has been around for 125 years or more, and I suspect you could find it in another 100 years. 0 -
I personally would look into some of the top shotguns for this type of thing if I was going to do it.
I am not talking your everyday shotguns, but rather the top specalty ones. I look at them from time to time at a gun shop in Charlotte and these things are $10000 and up as they are displayed there.
These things have beutifull engraving, gold inlays, and many other stand out features.
I personally buy guns to shoot, but if I ever hit the powerball (which will probly never happen seeing that I seldom ever play it) I would consider buying a few of them to put in a glass display case.0 -
I'd get a few different ones, for not much money. The various surplus CZ pistols out there now, the Makarovs, the Nagant revolver, and a few boxes of ammo for each. While it seems that there are "plenty" of these as surplus, that will change in a few years I'm pretty sure... 0 -
Any new gun made in relatively small numbers would be a good choice. Remember to put away a couple boxes of ammo with it. I would consider the HK P7M8 Jubilee, any Kahr "Elite" models, a Seecamp .380. These are small numbers and all steel. The future is polymer and a steel gun may in the future be a little rarer. 0 -
I have one of them and shoot the hell out of it.

An H&K VP70z. It is a great gun, 9mm, 18+1 rounds! Cheap Ammo. Very collectible.
It is also unervalued in my opinion and can be had in original box for around $500. I have one. The only think I do not like about it is that it is double action only.0 -
I'm thinking I would like to always have a SIG 220 waiting to take over when (IF?) my present one wears out/breaks/is lost or stolen.
I have all the gear and stuff for one, and the ammo -
Thanks for the question - I guess I know what I will buy next!0
